Quote for redecorating house

We live in the southeast and have just had a hideous quote for redecorating the house. Including materials but still. All one colour except hall and lounge (colour 2) and one bedroom (pink! And colour 3)

Would anyone be able to give me an idea of how much they paid for a similar job? It's 5 bed and lots of the woodwork is new.

In the NE and we recently paid just over £1K for painting the playroom, kitchen, hallway, bathroom and one bedroom. That included white paint for ceiling and woodwork but not the colours.

By hallway I mean hallway, staircase and landing.

10 years ago stripping old wallpaper, new lining paper and painting living room, dining room, stairs and landing and hall - £4.3K. Amazing job.

I'm not handy at all but I just love painting. I think wallpapering is harder but painting, with the exception of cutting in, is great fun with a roller.

London 5 beds, whole house a couple of years back £16k.

It took three decorators about two and a half weeks.

It’s generally about 150 a day here per person, then materials on top.

A five bed house is going to take some substantial time.

The paint colour doesn’t make a difference op. It’s not cheaper to paint it pink v another colour.

I'm in SE. We had two reception rooms, hall (small), stairs and landing, kitchen and small utility room painted a year ago. I supplied the paint, it cost £800.

I'm in the SE and we recently paid around £750 a room including woodwork, that was for 3 coats and all walls were primed first.

He seemed to think it would cost more if all the rooms were different colours. He was slagging off so and so from up the road for doing everything in a different f&b colour.......

We just had a quote for through reception room, hall, stairs (2 flights) landing and 4 bedrooms. (No kitchen or bathrooms as done recently). And it was £6K. Victorian house so the things that eat the money are the spindles on the stairs and all the woodwork. This excluded paint but included all other materials (brushes/primer/wood filler) etc.

In london. I think the decorators quote for £200 pp per day. Thetes 2 of them. They are superb. To paint a sizeable house hood decorators should make sure they go over and fo all prep firt which could take a person a day. A couple of hosts of undercoat and top cost on woodwork will take days and the walls and ceiling gs also need time for coats to dry. Its not just the number of beds bit how big. How much woodwork is there, door frames and doors, windows, banister etc. Could easily tun up to £8k where I live.

We recently had our whole house done. £2 1/2K for a small cottage. The price was ok but it took him 3 weeks because he only worked 9 to 2 every day. Shan’t be using him again!

My husband is a painter in the SE. He charges £150 a day. Using different colour paint will make it more expensive as if it's one colour you can buy it in bulk so it's cheaper. If you use a dulux paint it will be cheaper than farrow and ball.
Without looking at it and just going off the top of his head for a 5 bedroom house it would be approx £6k.

I do all the painting. I once emulsioned in one go a 2 bed semi, 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom, landing, stairs, hall, living room, dining room, breakfast room and kitchen in 20 hours, including ceilings.
And did all the woodwork the day after.

I'd probably guess around £10k. We had a large hall stairs and landing done 3-4 years ago that cost £1.5k (no doors) and the kitchen/diner/utility/living area last year which was £2k, so can't think it would be less than than £10-12k?

That would be a rough estimate on the information you have given. If he was to go out to a job and it was in a terrible state or a massive mansion I imagine it would be different.
If you mean it's new plastered walls and new wood it should just need a miss coat and priming of the wood.
If you mean the walls need plastering he doesn't do that but the plasterers he works with tend to charge about £220 a day.

I was quoted £3000 for my tiny house. In the end I paid £700 for hall, stairs and landing, kitchen, living room and front door canopy. They made a fantastic job of it. And it was done really quickly.

I did all the painting last time over many evenings and I'm not doing it again. I was pregnant and kepy getting dizzy. And I skipped the woodwork which covered with too many coats of dodgy gloss
