Bathroom floor tiles - hexagonal

Hey, just wanted some advice on your thoughts on floor tiles for my new bathroom. I’m getting normal metro sized wall tiles (but they aren’t embellished).

I’m picking out floor tiles for my new bathroom and I really want hexagonal floor tiles. My suite is white and I would like white floor tiles as I think they would look nice. I could use grey grout, and I also have no children, or partner (this forum rocks for advice though).

I really would love some small ones like this www.toppstiles.co.uk/shapes-mosaics/shapes-hexagon-matt-white-mosaic-tile?gclid=Cj0KCQiA4NTxBRDxARIsAHyp6gDqWSQSjL7ITWG9WIhKovs_ok5iwM1yGXmY-UDO8bCGwgso-Xq2jX8aAkvlEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds But the guy in the shop said it would look too busy. I think perhaps this size would be good www.digsdigs.com/hexagon-tiles-bathroom-ideas/ I’ve got a sample on a Matt finish but they don’t clean well, so I guess a polished finish would be great?

Any thoughts on the best way to have wall tiles? I was thinking horizontal?

It’s so funny that initial this point I thought it would be easy to design my bathroom!

The small hexagonal tiles look lovely in the picture as the grout is a similar colour to the tiles but light grout in a bathroom is a nightmare to keep clean (even without kids). If you have dark grout and light tiles then you make a feature of the grout and so much grout would look fussy.

I have larger grey hexagonal tiles with grey grout and I love them. Mine are matt and they clean well and show fewer marks than more polished ones. I also have white metro wall tiles and they're laid in a horizontal brick pattern.

Swoon! Love the unit, where did you get that and the tiles from?

I have those exact tiles in my en-suite - the small white ones with grey grout, as well as in the cut out in the shower. Love them - would ignore the guy in the shop if I were you!

We have the Attingham Mist on the walls rather than metro tiles though ( exact combo shown here: www.toppstiles.co.uk/attingham/attingham-mist-tile)

@Manchestermanchester I'm off to AS myself as I'm sure I asked a similar question on here when I was doing my bathroom and got recommendations from MN!

The vanity unit was from Tikamoon as recommended by a Mumsnetter on a previous thread from 2017. It was quite big so our bathroom fitter sawed the back off it but there are loads of different options.

The wall and floor tiles were both from Tons of Tiles, again a MN recommendation.

I also found this threat that I'd commented on that might give you some inspiration. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2916151-to-ask-to-see-your-bathroom

Swoon OMG I love that site. Thank you.

@TattiePants what is the quality like? They look nice and I hate the plastic ones at the shop.

@YouFightLikeADairyFarmer thanks. They are expensive which is the problem as well :(

Omg I’ve gone of my wall tiles lol.

It’s really sturdy, solid wood and after 3 years it’s still as new. Alternatively we did this in our downstairs loo, found a piece of Victorian furniture and had it adapted for the plumbing.

@TattiePants I’m so sorry but I’m copying your bathroom!

I’m also so happy that I’ve found that vanity, it looks fab and has lifted my mood a lot

also @TattiePants where are the pipes for the sink, are they visible? I don’t care it’s just my fitter might have an issue drilling and stuff.

@manchestermanchester copy away! The sink is against a stud wall so the plumbing is concealed, it’s just the waste on show. The drawers don’t go all the way back so if your plumbing has to come up from the floor there is plenty of space. It’s so deep that once you have things on the shelf you wouldn’t be able to see any pipes.

Ok I’m going with the Tikamon unit.

White suite (because the bath I wanted isn’t in black ☹️

And the wall tiles are these www.tilemountain.co.uk/p/savoy-leaf-gloss-wall-tile-2349.html - they do look different in the showroom. Sometimes I wish I picked more plainer but too late now I guess haha.

The floor I’m a bit stuck. I really want hexagonal floor tiles and I’ve found decent ones in white and black. I think white is the obvious choice, with dark grout. Guess I have no other options :/ ?

We have small white hexagonal mosaic tiles with grey grout in a small bathroom and the floor looks great. We have metro tiles on the wall with white grout because we were talked out of dark grout. It looks fine but not great.

Aw @TheClitterati thank you but it's still a bit unfinished - I always get 90% of a job done then never get round to the finishing touches. The one good thing about lockdown is that we're working our way around the house and finishing things off. I'm currently having a blind made (from a duvet cover!) and today I bought a plant pot to go on the shelves (that I haven't actually bought yet!). Slowly getting there.
