Could you chat through some ideas with me please?

This is my hallway and I'd like some ideas.

I love this dark blue, for the wall behind the g-plan but I don't think I can do fully blue in here.
I'm struggling with wallpaper, partly with cost, and partly because I haven't really decided what I want!

What other colours with a dark blue feature wall? I'm not hugely sold on mustard, although I do have some mustard accessories. I'm going to strip the heavy laquer off the wooden doors and step (eventually) and have wooden shelves coming for shoes in the little hallway (which will stain to be more like the g-plan in colour if necessary)

On a bright day it's quite light in here, but on a grey day like today it's quite dark. I tried a 'duck egg' sample but it's a bit minty green and doesn't go with the retro stuff. I think I need to be thinking more yellow/yellow white?

Or what about the sagey green sample? I could do the whole room in that- but does it work with the mid century unit? I can't decide

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

It's a huge room for what is basically a coat and shoe storage area.

I love the white walls and the piece of wallpaper? Under the picture frames. Oh and the cat .

I would put wallpaper (the white with the green leaves) on the frame wall and light sage on the other walls 🙅‍♀️.

Oh, Do you like the paper? I'd sort of disregarded it as it was on offer in b&q so I grabbed a sample while I was looking for paint!

I know the leaf wallpapers have been in fashion for a while, but I quite like it, it would bring some colour to your hall.

But don't mind me, I'm Scandi and white walls are a must . Seriously your first pictures are soo dark, you need to make sure it doesn't end up being a dark hole. If you go all out with dark blue, why no combine with gold instead of yellow? Try Pinterest or Houzz for inspiration.

I prefer light walls. White walls are great natural light and makes the room look bigger.

Personally I would avoid the navy or any darker colour as you already have black tile floor.
Otherwise sage green may go nicely with the black floor.

No, I love it @madambee. I love the freshness of green and white.

The pictures are exceptionally dark due to the hideous weather today, granted. On a bright day it's got loads of light but a combination of being an odd L shape, with a black tiled floor, and then the awkward little 'second hall' with the very dark doors, I don't want to come home and feel like I'm walking into a cupboard with no lights!

I've just been and bought 4 rolls of the paper as it's reduced in b&q so was worried it might sell out. That's enough to do the one feature wall, plus possibly the opposite wall, which is smaller (due to said awkward alcove). Also bought a sample of a slightly lighter green than my previous picture (and slightly less bluey). Although I did briefly consider a pale ochre colour instead....

I have lots of vintagey bits but not exclusively to one era, just interesting little bits that I like, so I'm hoping to fit those in and obviously my g-plan which I love and has to stay

Thanks also @Gwilt160981, I also like light colours but never have liked plain stark white. I don't think it suits our character (we are not tidy or minimalist in any way). A few times we've been very bold with colour and that works too so I suppose there's room for both in different places?

@LuisaKelmen that's lovely. I love the natural wood in all these green rooms too, it really shows it off.

I'm doing long shelves with black brackets using scaffold boards for shoes to go on, so I plan to just clean them, sand them back and wax them. Have done them before in another room and they look fab (and they are cheap to do!)

Can you change the floor. I don't think you're going to achieve the look you're going for with those black tiles. Sorry.

luisas sage colour is lovely. If you choose pale ochre, I'm not going to post again .

Where is the alcove? I love a bench in the hall, can only recommend it for the alcove, if there is room. Why not one or two shelves (the same wood as for the shoes) on the wall, where your plant is now? Would be lovely for a few selected pieces.

I have a bench like Pic. with baskets only (and different fabric), it's great for shoes or mittens, scarves etc.

@madambee it's not an alcove as such, more a fat L shape. It's basically a square room with a little rectangle taken off on one side. We've bought it like this, so making do with what we have. Same with the tiles, they are awful and I'd never choose them (coupled with Cotswold stone gravel outside so constantly have chalky white footprints on them!)
(However, this is just a deviation fix not a total overhaul, I can't remove the tiles, they will have to stay)

The square room then leads onto a little rectangular room (through those wooden doors, the original front door of the house) like a more normal size of hallway, then into a third area which is the bottom of the stairs. Ludicrous waste of space. I will put shelves for shoes (5ft long x 2 shelves) along the side wall of that second hall.

So no room for a bench really. I do like the idea of shelves on that wall by the door though, even if they were higher up with kids height hooks underneath. That would clear some of the many coats from the current coat hooks as well. We do have a coat stand but to be honest unless it's just one coat hung on each hook, the whole thing looks like a jumble sale and I'm tempted to sell it to buy something that fixes to the wall,

I didn't suggest the tiles removed . FWIW i have black slate in our hall and not much natural light, despite white wall, it's horribly dark.

Can't really understand your layout description, but I'm sure you will get something nice.
