Stair runner?

Our stair carpet needs replacing and as we have a cat who loves clawing it we are looking for cheaper alternatives that we can change fairly often that still look good.

It seems that a stair runner may be a good option for us but, we have a very small, square landing as well.

This must mean just buying a tiny square of other carpet for that?

How does that fit together and look right where the runner and fitted little square meet?

Stair runner will mean you need to prep and paint the sides of the stairs so that will add to the cost although only the first time.

We have a runner and a tiny square landing, the runner just carries on around the landing in an L shape.

(They cut the carpet at a 45 degree angle to do the landing)

Bumping this as we are trying to decide between runner & carpet for our stairs - split level so 2 half sets of stairs. We also have clawing cats, they are already angry today as I've lifted & dumped all the carpet!

Going to paint the stairs white & try a runner as can always carpet over if needs be.

Did you go ahead with it OP? Any tips or recs for buying runners & things that hold them?
