We have just put down new flooring and decorated. I really love the start we’ve made, but really struggling with colours/furnishings etc for finishing the room off. Neither of us have an eye for it at all, we borrowed this rug as I thought it might be nice but it’s too wishy washy?? Thinking a bigger deep purple rug and gold accessories but I’m really not sure if this would work or what else would? Please help!!!

It looks pretty ‘finished off’ to me. Very nice indeed. What more are you wanting to do with the place?

Maybe see if there's any inspiration on pinterest? I'm not sure with the purple, perhaps a light brown / green cushions to blend in with the wallpaper/flooring/rug. I like the rug

I'd look at some photos/mirror/artwork for the long wallpapered wall. Everything is very 'low level' and can imagine without the Christmas tree that the wall is quite bare.

Thank you, yes I was thinking brass mirror and big white frames?? There is actually a deep purple in the stems on the wallpaper which is why I thought it might tie in. I struggle to buy things for a room as I can’t visualise it 🙈

One thing you can do (which I know seems counterintuitive as you've just finished the room!) But try taking everything but the big furniture out, and gradually adding it back in. It might help you see what's really working and what might not be? Bring stuff you have in other rooms in to stand in for stuff before you buy lots of new things, so if you have a big mirror in another room try holding it up in there etc to see if you like it.

Also, and just my opinion, but the grey is quite a contrast to the gold wallpaper. Rather than introducing more purple for now, I'd suggest gold cushions or throw on the purple sofa, to help bring together.

It looks nice already, but here’s what I would do, get rid of the purple cushions. Can I see check covered cushions under the purple ones? I am looking at the check curtains you have in the background. Something like these cushion covers

Then i’d replace the rug with a different colour, maybe a stone or other pale colour colour.

Tbh, I’m not a fan of anything being hung against wallpapered walls, especially pictures/photos. Do you have a ‘plain’ wall for this? If you absolutely want to hang something against this wall, i’d opt for a small mirror. I’m just wondering, is there anywhere else you can place the sofa that’s near the Christmas tree? I think a small sideboard would look great there, against the wall. The mirror could go above it. In fact, once Christmas is over (I know I know!) and the tree has gone, you may be able to fit a small sideboard in its place anyway, thus not having to sacrifice the sofa.

I think you need a lighter rug

Floor is lovely. Rug is not! I would let the floor show off a bit more. Wallpaper is nice too
