What rug in this room?

Hi, what would you do with this room?

Currently nursery with double bed for convenience. Once baby is past 6m we expect to remove the double bed and pop the cot in the same space, moved slightly into the triangular alcove. Getting a fitted wardrobe on the far left, under the sloping ceiling.

I anticipate this being a play space for a toddler and for baby, so want a nice plush rug... Size? Shape? Colour? Where should I buy it? (Ignore budget at this point)

I’d get as big a rug as you can. It’s much nicer sitting/crawling/playing and falling over on a rug rather than a hard floor.

Children’s rugs tend to be made from cheap man-made fibres so we opted for a quirky, colourful, thick wool rug from Anthropologie.

As a side note, do you expect to hang out and play in the room? Our play area is downstairs as that’s where we spend our time.

Thanks; will take a look at Anthropologie! I was wondering about a circular or oval rug, but I wonder if it’ll look messy? But then again, currently that room has a lot of rectangular/square shapes, esp with all those cubbyholes!

I imagine we probably will spend a reasonable amount of time up there, currently play a lot in my son’s room but it’s small and poky compared to the upstairs space. Don’t mind being proven wrong though, as long as the room is nice!

Probably something washable and soft for children. Just to say I love your room .

Thanks, it’s been a slow project but we’re nearly there now! Am pleased with how it’s turned out. Will shortly be posting for advice on the next project 😂

I don't understand what the curved glass thing is at the front of the pic....

It’s the barrier between the room and the stairs (room is an attic conversion). It’s curved because I took the photo in panorama mode- it’s definitely straight in real life!

Ah, I would have gone the opposite route for a low pile, easy clean large rug, life this outdoor Ikea one and put a couple of tactile, soft knitted pouffes on it. Perhaps add a thick fleece throw, that can be put in the washing machine.
