White/grey house Mediterranean

Hi

I have recently moved into a house in Spain. Currently the internal walls are magnolia, I want to modern it up and paint the whole house an off white or very pale grey. I am going to ship the paint over from the UK, so I would appreciate any advice on colours that might work in the Mediterranean climate?

Also I notice wallpaper is not popular over here. I'd like wall paper one one wall in the bedroom. Do you think that there may be people dont have wall paper due to an issue with the climate?

I love Dulux Timeless (soft white).

No idea about wallpaper, but perhaps the heat/humidity doesn't work with wallpaper paste?

In my experience (born and raised in Portugal), pure white works beautifully with the light in the Mediterranean and it has the additional advantage of keeping houses cool.

Light grey will probably look washed out in bright sunny lights.

We can't stand wallpaper and/or carpets and I can't remember the last time I saw either in an Iberian home (probably late 1970's).

Carpets just don't work in our climate and people tend to find them dirty and hard to keep clean.

Wallpaper is just a taste/aesthetic preference thing, I suspect. Don't see why you would t have it.

Kevin McCloud has a Book of Colours with some mediterranean paint schemes and a key to paint manufacturers of individual shades. I think he has whole sections on Northern Light, so if you avoid those colours you are probably on the right track Wink.

We stayed in a Greek house recently, which was stunning decorated with pale green washed floor boards in kitchen/living room, lots of white walls, offset with terracotta colours, yellowy cream kitchen, and some strong sunshine colours like yellow and blue. But no "dirty" tints and no grey anywhere. The bright light washes out soft tints.

I stayed once in a house in the south of France which was painted white throughout with grey woodwork- door frames, skirting, windows- the effect was amazing, very sophisticated and streamlined, with colour added in the textiles and accessories. Could be an option?

I'm sure it will be fine...as long as it is white not grey grey or grey blue/green.
