I've got a large wooden star which DH made...flat and distressed. There's a glass lantern DD made and some photos...not very inspirational! My other fireplace has a large 1920s vase which I usually have flowers in and either side are some wooden letters which are made from old cans and in the shape of our initials.

A few random family photos in non-matching frames and (currently) some of my 4yo's birthday cards.

A tiny Vallauris dish, (the ones made with the cicada), a figurine ornament of the owl and a pussycat in their beautiful pea green boat, a 1930s figure ornament of a giraffe glazed in an art deco stylee circles, a plastic Babycham fawn, an Alebrije cat figurine, a painted carved wooden tiger with most of the paint rubbed off, and a bronze hare.

Yes, I have no taste. Grin

There used to be a lot more before I decluttered. Now an Arts & Crafts clock in the centre and a David Linley obelisk at each end (bought years ago)

On the big one, an antique clock, six framed photos, two vases, two silver lantern things. On thr smaller one, an ornament we inherited, it's a white figurine, sits on the middle, and two candle sticks we also jnherited with candles in, at either end.

We also have baskets with logs, and those fire accessory sets, you know with pokers etc, as there is a wood burner in each.

two pictures painted by a family member, guinea pig antibiotics, various school projects from art/design, a medal, a trophy, a candle and various bits of pottery done by the DCs plus some beach pebbles, a piece of driftwood, a horses tooth and little houses - it's a weird mantelpiece with two shelves.
