Should I get rid of the bath in our ensuite?

Please help solve a marital dispute!

We are very lucky and have 4 beds and 3 bathrooms. One tiny shower room ensuite to spare room, one family bathroom on the landing which we refurbished last year, it has a big deep bath with shower over, and our ensuite. This is now 20 years old and needs attention. Currently it has bath, separate shower cubicle and single basin in vanity unit.
I would like to replace bath with large walk in shower , increase the size of the storage in the vanity unit and have a tall floor to ceiling cupboard built where the shower is now, about half the current width and depth...this would house my shoes which are all flung in the bottom of our warbrobes and are a big mess. I dream about this cupboard!!

DH adamant we should keep the bath despite the fact that we've probably had 10 baths between us in 20 years.( not together)
We have been in house for 20 years and plan to be here at least another 10.

What would you all do?

Is it your only bath? If so keep it, if not bin it.

Who else do you live with? If you have a household full of bath-loving teens then it might make sense to keep the bath in your ensuite. Does your DH like the idea of having a bath more than the reality? Or have them when he's on his own in the house more than you realize? (I often have a long bath of I have an evening to myself). Or is he just resistant to any form of change?

I would have the large shower, extra storage and two enormous sinks.

Wouldn't store shoes in the bathroom though, would use the space for upstairs cleaning stuff, toilet roll, medicines, etc

I love my bath and would never be without it, but there’s no need for two in a 4 bed house! I’d definitely get rid of it. A huge shower and more storage would suit most families I’d imagine.

What you are considering is the set up we have. A family bathroom with a bath & a shower cubicle, a tiny shower room ensuite to the guest bedroom & a larger ensuite to the biggest bedroom with a decent sized shower & no bath. It works really well for us.

One deep bath in the family bathroom is plenty!!

Walk in shower fab and extra storage is too.

I'm usually team bath, but with a bath in the main bedroom a large walk in shower seems like more of a luxury and more typical of an en suite. I would LOVE to have his and hers sinks so I don't need to deal with DH shaving as they seem really luxurious when we've had them in hotel rooms

One bath is enough. We got rid of the bath in the main bathroom ( dc14 and 10 so prefer showers) and put a jacuzzi/steam bath combo in the en-suite

Yep, we got rid of ours under similar circumstances. One bath is plenty

If you hardly ever have a bath, ditch the bath.

Massive waste of space if it just sits there doing nothing.

Ask DH when he last had a bath, and the time before that.

He definitely doesn't have secret baths...it's always full of dust when I clean the bathroom. So it seems like as long as there is a bath in the house, getting rid of the 2nd one in the main ensuite wouldn't be a disaster.
Firefliess has it...he's quite resistant to change!

Ditch the bath. Bathers are in the minority. Who has time for all that !
