patio fruit trees

Has anyone managed to grow a patio fruit tree in and get decent fruit??? We have had several and after 2 years the last one died despite being in the ground. Two others are looking pretty tatty - both peaches but which don't have leaf curl, both in pots with the recommended compost etc. We don't have issues with other plants/trees and we are wondering if we are doing something wrong - or if it is pretty much a con

Pollination (or lack of it) may be the main issue.

Thanks - have tried pollination by hand and followed the advice from RHS. Maybe I just don't have green fingers ...
