New kitchen table and chairs/bench

(NC as I don't want the photo to out me.)

I'd like to replace our kitchen tables and chairs which were only ever supposed to be a temporary measure. 10 years on they are still with us.

I hate the table with a passion - mostly because the table top is bright orange (more so than in the photo) and twice a year I break out the sander and sand it down, stain it dark and then seal it and then within a month the orange is coming through again. The photos aren't quite capturing it but the worktop are a nice walnuty colour and the table, not so much. Cabinets are wood painted a blueish greyish lavender colour.

But what would look good in here? I feel like I've always had these country style kitchen tables (cause thats's what we had growing up?) but am drawn at the moment to something like
this (thought I'd prefer perhaps colourful chairs?)
or

this

or even this

The key thing is it needs to be compact and be able to withstand messy family life and not turn orange. Happy to spend up to about £700, but would be even happier to spend less.

Any leads greatly appreciated. REally second guessing everything I see at the moment.

We have a table similar to your last link-be careful if you want to put chairs at either end, the floor bar is annoying (but I love the table so I live with it!).
I love the Eames type chairs (too colourful for brown/beige/grey loving DH!) but I would have them if I didn't have to compromise.

What about a bench seat? They are great if you have kids. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-calia-3-seater-dining-bench/p431159.

I was thinking the bench seat would mean kids fighting and squirming but perhaps I should give them more credit Grin

I've got my eye on similar chairs from Danetti.
They used to do a Eames style chair but it's been discontinued.
Nice range of colours

I'd definitely recommend having a look at Danetti, they do a great range of chairs and tables, including colourful chairs. I got my dining table and chairs from there a few months ago and they are really good quality.

I think that the country style kitchen table can be cute, but I can understand why you’re sick of it and want a change. You could try Habitat for something with a more modern aesthetic?

Which danetti ones did you get @sweetheart?

@BreakfastAtSquiffanys my kitchen is quite modern, so I've got these chairs:

And this table:

They look and feel lovely Smile

We bought a white 'gloss' table from Maison du minded. It was very cheap so perhaps I was hoping for too much, but it did not wear well. It developed yellow stains and started chipping off within months. I need a hard wearing table for pastry etc in the kitchen and that wasn't it - we've gone back to varnished beechwood for scrubability.

Maybe a sheet of safety glass made to measure over the top might have avoided our issues.

I really like the look of the table and bench sets, like this from next, link below.

What I did was kept my old table as it’s really solid and extends to be massive, but updated the look with some white tulip style chairs and I love it, suits our current kitchen/diner and was the affordable option. (as seen in pic).

We bought this bench and it looks a lot more expensive than it was. Very sturdy but should my rancid teen destroy it in any way, I won't be crying my eyes out because it was inexpensive.

We bought ours from an oak outlet store, 10 years later it's still in great condition. But I prefer traditional styles

Your second photo, the table with the hairpin legs - I read a blog where they made a table like that. It was just a piece of wood, then they bought hairpin legs online. I seem to remember they also made a bench the exact same way.

A length of worktop in the same wood as your worktops could be made into a table by attaching legs.

Not the point of the thread but I love your floor op!

Thanks Bluesheep and everyone for suggestions. I'm looking at a legs + worktop combo, and then have just found someone on etsy who can do it for me, plus benches to tuck underneath. I'm leaning towards the trapazoid legs as I think they overall look is cleaner and my kitchen is cluttered at the best of times, but still mulling it over.

I want to get two chairs for when elder parents are over, and have sort of fallen for these normann copenhagen form chairs but not so much the price. May (happily) settle for some eames style knock offs

I’ve found a few nice hairpin legged tables on eBay with birch ply tops which look abut like the second photo
