What's on trend with blinds?

For a bay window. We've ruled out shutters due to cost and don't like roller blinds (or the day and night blinds).

Are wide slatted Venetians still in? And if so what colour? With tape or no tape?

Most interiors people I follow online are all doing shutters so I'm not sure what the current trend is with blinds.

Any advice appreciated.

I assume having no blinds is not an option so you're left with:

Venetians - no tape. I always found the tape bunched up when the blinds were up.
Vertical blinds.
Roman blinds.
Perfect fit blinds - suitability may depend on your type of window frame.
Window film - depends how much privacy you want. Can look a bit "basic" if not applied right.

I prefer white or natural wood for the blinds - they don't interfere with the rest of your decor. The link below should give you a few ideas.

I have white wooden Venetians with tapes in my bathrooms. I have read that the tapes get dirty but as they were only about £60 each due to small windows I am ok with that.

I have got roman blinds in all my bays.

I don’t like wood coloured blinds, they make thr room seem dark.

Do you think white or grey for Venetians?

White - goes with everything. Won't need to be replaced if you change/update the room further down the line. Darker blinds, I think, always make a room seem quite gloomy.

Thanks, yes white blinds never really go out of fashion I guess.

White wide Venetian with no tape . You can get 'faux wood' for bathroom and kitchen so doesn't expand - looks nice and fresh and actually keeps room fresher! And stops cats climbing out of windows 🤣

I’m a designer and window treatments are always worth investing in. I personally love a Roman Blind, I have those in my home (including living room bay window) and use them for many of my clients to. I do install Venetians but I prefer the look of a Roman especially in the bay. If you go for Romans I’d get them bonded interlined it will help keep heat in.

It’s not that venetians aren’t on trend. It just comes down to what you prefer.

It does ofcourse depend on your space. What the general style of the room?

I think wide slatted Venetians are a good alternative to shutters. We've gone for these due to cost. They come in loads of different shades so we went for off white.
We have a huge bay window and I think romans would have looked better but they're more difficult to clean/harbour dust.

I find Venetians huge dust collectors compared to roman blinds and think it is much easier to vacuum Romans than clean Venetians. Not that either happens often - my windows are 10 ft tall.

I have wide wooden venetians with tapes. They don't get pulled up so no bunching of the tapes. They are slightly off white, as white can be a bit too cold. I have them throughout my house.

We have 50mm wide white wooden venetian blinds, no tape. I just can't decide whether I like the tape or not. On some blinds I like it but on others don't, so I decided to go against it. I'm glad I did. My venetians have hidden holes in them so when the blinds are shut there's little light leakage.

The 50mm slats are good because there's a lot of space between each slat when they're open, which makes the room seem brighter.

I do like Roman Blinds too, but I'm an absolute nightmare at choosing fabrics, so it's far safer for me to choose something plain!
