I'm in the process of modernising my house before I put it up for sale. It is being plastered and painted (essential works) and I need to replace carpet in some rooms.
The layout of the house is entrance is into a small porchway which then leads into a large, dog-leg hallway. The living room, dining room and 2 bedrooms lead off the hallway (as well as kitchen and bathroom). The stairs are at an angle in the hallway and upstairs there is the landing and 2 bedrooms.
At the moment I have the same coloured carpet in the hallway, living room and dining room, but the last two rooms are not next to each other. The carpet is perfectly fine but as it's a dark colour it is making the hallway dark. I do really need to replace the carpets on the stairs and landing.
So I'm thinking of replacing the carpet in the hallway, stairs and landing to a light colour and leaving the living room and dining room in the current dark colour. This will brighten up the hallway which is the first thing the viewers see when entering the house. The bedrooms will just have to make do with a good clean as my budget doesn't stretch to those.
Would it look okay or would it look better with a new carpet in the living room and dining room as well?
