Farrow and Ball dramas

Has anyone had any experience of getting a Farrow & Ball paint colour mixed up in a different brand? I’ve heard F&B isn’t the best. I’ve read online Johnstone paint is a close match? Does anyone have any experience of this? My painter wants to use Dulux Trade paint but not sure if they would match F&B colour or whether it’ll look the same colour. Any advice welcome!

I would second that F&B is horrible to paint with! I’ve had colours mixed at a Crown decorators centre into a trade paint that they recommended had a minibar chalky finish to F&B. It’s lush! Amazing to paint with and fantastic coverage.

Du,ux and Johnstone’s will match to their own nearest colour
The only way to get an exact match is to use a spectrophotometer

Don't do it!!!
It really is crap quality compared to F and B
The quality of F and B is amazing and I have had to repaint outside wooden frames much sooner using trade 'close natch' plus the colour faded as the pigment just isn't there
I think this rumour about F and B bring poor to work with is put about by painters who don't get to make anything off the paint too like they do with trade paints.
I swear I don't work for them btw Smile

A few years ago I had Dimitris colour matched by dulux and it was poor, it brought out one dimension of the colour.
I now have a bit more money to spend and most of my house is Farrow and Ball, Ive never had any problem withit. It’s easy to apply, lasts well, and the depth of colour and texture is gorgeous. I’m not a hugely experienced decorator either ( but have very high standards!!)

I actually painted some massive wooden built in cupboards with estate emulsion because the wanted it very very matt, thinking it wouldn’t last, but that was at least 6 years ago and they still look fantastic.

Little Greene do a colour match service and their paint is top notch and the match is pretty perfect.

Just as expensive as F&B though

Just finished a whole house in Johnstone's copies of f&B. Very happy with the results, which so far, are holding up far better than the real F&B we used throughout the last house!

Thanks everyone, we have decided to go with Johnstone’s and their colours seem good! Also gave us a great price. Thanks for all your advice!
