Give me tips to update my house

My house has been as it is for over 20 years. fashions have changed.
We had the kitchen done around 16 years ago at great expense - over £20K then inc new boiler and granite etc. It's now a bit dated but we won't re-do.
In my lounge it's a bit like John Lewis Croft style- soft country look.
But my pictures look dated. They are mainly originals - landscapes and still life watercolours mainly in gold frames. They look dated now everyone goes for monochrome or black frames.

I've had a couple in the dining room re-framed in brushes silver and wonder if white' grey frames would suit the lounge?

The colour scheme is oatmeal sofa and carpet with turquoise accessories ( ceramics * throw) and large glass lamps with cream shades ( they are new.) We've got a couple of old antique wooden trunks for storage and TV stand etc.

I'm browsing Ideal Home and without throwing it all out here, hard to know how to make it more up to date.

Any ideas?

I would update your colours... but steer clear of grey as I think it might be on its way out!

I have no interior design talent but hope someone comes up with some good advice for you!

Yes I think off white frames with all pictures grouped together on a wall in a strong colour that you like. As it all sounds quite neutral you could liven it up with some yellow even just in cushions /lampshades and accessories to work with the teal.
There are some really amazing wallpapers around at the moment for a feature wall so you could afford to go really bold and get a few throws / cushions to match.
Is the layout open plan in kitchen and lounge?

Can we have a picture? Is there a Neptune showroom near you? Sounds like your style is quite neptuney so you might get some good ideas as they style really well for that sort of look.

If you like it, why change it? Some people might say my house looks dated but it's how I like it. I don't care what's in fashion.

I am not sure if anything in my home would count as fashionable as it has never occurred to me that it should. If I like it then it stays.Very fond of my old junk.

It all sounds pretty classic, the one thing that stands out is the turquoise accessories. I'd just cycle out the throws, cushions and stuff for something new. Sainsbury's has some lovely blue cushions and throws in right now, and Zara Home has nice bits too. Also get some house plants, I think they make any room feel fresher and more alive and they never go out of date!
