Calling all bedroom inspiration!

We are about to do the next phase of home renovations 😩
Although I’m looking forward to getting a new bedroom out of it, I have no idea what I would like.
Where do you look for bedroom ideas? I can’t get on with Pinterest at all, don’t understand it, but I can’t think of a colour/decor scheme.
The room isn’t massive, about 5.5m x 4.5m so obviously I have to be realistic!
Any ideas?

TripAdvisor. Looking at the hotel bedroom pictures will give you a good idea of what you like/don't like. Or online estate agents. Be warned, you will lose hours.

Oh lord!! I can lose hours, still got a good few weeks of the summer holidays left Grin
Thank you, that’s a really good idea Smile

I’ve been looking at photos of the new builds that are springing up near us. I guess if you’ve really got nothing to do you could always visit some locally as well!! Wink

Killer, it’s probably a more realistic gauge size wise! The new builds round my way you could barely swing a newborn rat in and my bedroom won’t be much different Grin
I’ve googled hotel bedrooms and they’re beautiful but so so much bigger than my room will be that it’s hard to picture it.

My bedroom isn't particularly huge (not sure of the exact dimensions) but I'm having it decorated next month and have gone for Farrow and Balls Stiffkey Blue. It'll be very dark, but I'm offsetting that with all white bedding and furniture, with pops of bright yellow on the scatter cushions etc. I know how it will look in my head, just not sure if it will match that in reality!
I'd usually steer clear of anything so dark and dramatic, and it will be so out of my comfort zone but I can't wait!

I’m no expert but think of the essentials and try to stick to neutral stuff for furniture and use soft furnishings for colour.

Make the bed the main focus. Think cushions, throws etc. I also love symmetry so bed side tables with matching lamps look great (shame DH doesnt agree!).

Try to keep it as clutter free as you can and make the bed every morning so when you go to bed you are greeted by a lovely relaxing room!

It will be perfectly symmetrical and we have found some special lights that go into the ceiling and beam down that will act as bedside lights. There will be switches beside the bed.
No cushions or throws, don’t like excess paraphernalia that just gets thrown on the floor but I make my bed every day anyway, I hate an unmade bed!!
It will be minimalist, the space is small and I don’t like furniture crammed into a room.
I just have no idea what colours I want anything!
We are having wardrobes fitted along one side of the wall, the bed with bedside tables and that’s it furniture wise.
The wardrobes have 4 actual wardrobe sections in, so we don’t need additional storage as the beds we are looking at also have some drawers underneath.

What colours make you happiest? Do you gravitate towards bright colours, pastels, monochrome, autumn colours?? For a bedroom I would say go with what makes you feel happy and relaxed.

I personally like a print on curtains to add some colour and texture. I would paint the wall behind the bed a “feature” colour and the rest white. Accent colour for bedside tables (or could be wood) and a nice big abstract print over the bed. Depends on your taste though! Think first of what makes you happy and relaxed!

I like navy and yellow but it’s a small room!

5.5m x4.5m is a small room?! I’m so jealous mines only 3.8x3.8. Tho is plenty big enough for me I suppose. I have just done mine a petrol blue and has hints of green and gold. Reminds me of a peacocks tail. Big mirrored wardrobe and 2 windows make it feel much bigger and brighter tho

@SicParvisMagna Ooh we've got stiffkey blue on one wall too. It's gorgeous if your thinking of navy OP
Rest of the walls are white, bed is a massive grey suede studded headboard. Ikea malm drawers and vikhammer bedside tables. Gold accessories. We adore it Grin big grey fluffy rug.

Obviously not tiny small like a box room but nothing like the sizes of the rooms I keep finding online!!
I’ll have a look at that blue paint, thanks. I always feel like very dark colours in a room look very imposing but happy to consider all
Ideas at the moment, my mind is drawing blanks left right and centre Grin
The wardrobes will be on the wall opposite the windows and are going to be mirrored so hopefully the light will reflect well.

I would look at some interiors blogs. A great place to start is Mad About the House. I just adore her house, but more importantly, she has excellent advice on lots of the things you should think about when designing and decorating rooms. She has a new book out (also titled Mad About the House) that I bought and there is so much useful advice there. Worth looking in your local library for it if you don’t want to pay for it.

Thank you, have just ordered mad about the house and a couple of other books.
There’s some structural work to do before we get to the good stuff but to be honest, I’d rather walk out the house and return when it’s all done, decorated and ready for me to sleep in Grin

I've seen a lovely, restful room in a soft green and white. This:

We've just had our bedroom decorated and it has been an absolute nightmare choosing colours etc, so I feel your pain! I also find Pinterest a bit unhelpful and get my best inspiration from magazines. Ideal homes is my favourite for aspirational but not too off the wall ideas, but see what's in stock with bedroom makeovers when you look.

Fwiw, we finally chose a midnight blue flamingo print wallpaper for the bed wall and wilkos 'stardust' pinky grey paint on the other 3 walls except a pink to match the flamingos on the chimney breast. We're on holiday and haven't seen the finished look yet! Grin

Advice is often to pick a favourite item like a picture or material and work from there for a colour scheme. We went through several ideas but then exposed the original hearth tiles (lilac) and changed the whole scheme based on those!
