Help! Urgent kitchen ideas needed following flood

Following a severe flood (just before our adoption match) we're under a v tight deadline to finalise our kitchen. As it's an insurance job is like for like, as far as possible. The kitchen is Howdens so need to avoid going over budget, what with all the hidden costs too.

The space is open plan L shaped but we only had the kitchen on the as a galley on part of the long part of the L if that makes sense. But the Howdens designer to be fair to her, came up with removing one of the sides with units and placing the whole thing along the whole L, which I love and am going for, esp as we have lovely views out of the windows. She even suggested a U shape by adding another right angle for a brekkie bar, but that's too much and would eat into the remaining flexible space (still likely to use the remaining space for a table and chairs in and require play space).

Any ideas though on what to do with the freed up space, now? It used to have base units at 60cm so will feel quite wide now. I was thinking of some shallow wall cabinets, a flip table top with foldable chairs, or a shallow storage bench (toys). It feels like it'll need something, especially with the electrical points there. I'm running out of ideas apart from a shallow tall cupboard for brooms, mops etc, but that's not much space. don't want it closed in again, but not soul-less either and I need to let the builder know final plans asap and social services are keen for us to move back in asap (we get matched this week). I thought maybe something wooden as DH would like wood worktops (not happening).

Sorry to hear about your flood...poor you, it sounds like you have had a really stressful time of it. Hard to visualise, but a toy storage bench sounds nice ...one with a padded seat so can also sit on it? Or one of those toy Ikea kitchens if you have a young child moving in...sometimes you can get them on e bay....
