Lovely tiles

Hello All,

We're re-doing our kitchen and planning to tile the floor, with some wall tiles too, also for a cloakroom. I've looked at a local tiling firm, Winchester Tiles and Fired Earth - the latter two have some styles I really like, FE especially for floor tiles, both for walls.

Does anyone have suggestions for other places to look for tiles?

I'm interested in slate and other floor tiles. For walls, metro and similar, or square patterned. Patterns, for kitchen and cloakroom, might include 'traditional handmade' style, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts or Moroccan-style designs - so some strongly pattened ones, perhaps interspersed with plain.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Wall and Floors, Tile Mountain, Tons of Tiles. Johnson's Tiles in Stoke have a good website and an outlet where you can buy direct from them.

Victoria plumbing. I wouldn’t have thought to look there for tiles but they have these which I’m contemplating for our porch floor.

Mandarin stone have some nice tiles and their Classic range is really well priced (particularly on things like plain white metro). I love fired Earth and Winchester tiles too....

Sounds like you would like FireClay. I've used them for professional projects and would absolutely recommend. They're based out of California so UK shipping could be prohibitive but if you have the budget they make absolutely gorgeous wall tile! I also think they fit what you're looking for - they have art deco and Moorish style designs. I love them and can't wait to put them in my own home one day!

Can't help with floor tile though I'm afraid.

I’ve spent the last few months looking for lovely tiles as we’re doing a whole house renovation so need tiles for kitchen, utility and 3 bathrooms! We’ve bought limestone floor tiles from Mandarin Stone, and am about to buy crackle glaze metro tiles from Walls and Floors (v similar to fired earth but much much cheaper).

In the utility I’ve been after lovely patterned tiles. I only need about 3 square metres so thought i’d get fired Earth but the ones I liked were nearly £250 per square metre so couldn’t stretch to that! Then I found some lovely ca’pietra tiles at a good price (closer to £70 per square metre) at periodpropertystore.co.uk so am now happy (and need to stop looking!).

Oh, I typed Art Deco when I meant Art Nouveau. It's an Edwardian house with some existing tiles and I'd like to keep it 'sort of in its own style' if more in spirit than letter.

Mandarin has some great slate floor tiles. Will look more at wall ones (agree Fired Earth prices can be a bit eyewatering - just resisted ordering a single sample tile for £20!). Fireclay has some lovely shapes and patterns (agree not sure about shipping but beautifully made).

I do like tiles. Have always thought the closest I might get to decorating a stately home might be when tiling a downstairs loo...

I’ve just ordered a couple of samples from artisans of Devizes and they look good.

I've just ordered samples from Mandarin. Their floor tile range is fantastic - slate, marble, limestone that all appeals. Some lovely wall tile designs too. And very generous with the samples - up to 12 for a small fee.

We’ve ordered the Jaipur limestone from
Mandarin stone. It’s beautiful, I can’t wait for it to be laid next week! The prices seem reasonable too and I went into one of the stores (wilmslow) to see it in real life as it was such a big purchase (we need 96 sq metres) and the staff were lovely and v helpful.
