Aargh! Am driving myself crazy and just cannot visualise the end result - looking for a soft grey that isn’t drab. Any advice out there? Please?

Egyptian Cotton is a greige rather than grey - I love it though. If you want a proper pale grey, how about Goose Down?

Not familiar with Just Walnut though.

I am trying to choose between the exact same too colours for my lounge! I don’t think either are very grey though (if that’s what you are looking for)...I am going to use grey in other parts of my house but need something just a little warmer for my lounge. Have you painted big bits of white paper/card and moved around the room? That can help you visualise it. I agree with Mamia15 that Egyptian cotton is more than a Greige...but when it’s dark and with artificial light it looks exactly like farrow and ball skimming stone to me. Just walnut is lighter ...I only think it’s looks grey in the darker parts of my lounge , but it’s also really nice. I think just walnut is “safer” because it’s lighter but that Egyptian cotton has a bit more depth ....That prob does not help at all :)

I have Egyptian Grey in my bedroom and I love it, I could have it in all my rooms. I don't think it is too dark but I don't know what Just Walnut looks like.

My little girl's room is Just walnut. It is beautiful: pale, soft, warm grey similar to F&B Elephant's Breath but possibly a little lighter. Three people I know have now used in their living rooms after seeing it.

Thanks everyone - still pondering but off to B&Q tomorrow so will have to make a decision by then 😬

We are deciding whether to have Egyptian Cotton throughout the house too, we don’t want a grey though and I think it does look grey in some light! Might do a test wall tomorrow because I find it so hard to decide until I see it properly, I have had so many test pots!

My hall stairs and landing is just walnut. Lovely and calm but not grey at all. My lounge is goose down by dulux and sounds more like what you're after

We repainted our original Egyptian Cotton hallway in Just Walnut and much prefer the warmer, less dirty-beige tone, have used it a lot in other rooms now. Our painter at first thought it was F&B Elephants Breath, which I also like (but hate the lack of washability, and the price!) Do be warned that at certain times of day, like Elephants Breath, certain walls have a definite touch of lilac. Doesn't bother me, but was a bit of a surprise....
Swansdown or Polished Pebble are very 'clear' greys if you want one that's less warm.

Just Walnut

Egyptian Cotton is very yellow in some lights. Reminds me of a certain nappy...

Is it a no for Egyptian Cotton then? We have also looked at Nutmeg White.

I have Egyptian cotton in a large room - its never looked yellow in any kind of light....it is a great colour that goes with any other colour/wood etc so really easy for coordinating.

Nutmeg white is lovely - I also have it, it is a soft pale neutral, it can look slightly pink in some lights though.

Mamia, I’m looking for a neutral not a grey so will I be safe with Egyptian Cotton? It is hard to tell from the bit I have daubed on the wall!

I agree that Nutmeg can look pinky so I’m not sure about that throughout.

We have Just Walnut and I love it. It's not grey, it's very light but lovely and soft. We have lots of colours in the room but they're quite muted so it's perfect. In other rooms where I have bright colours we just have white walls.

You will be safe with Egyptian Cotton - try painting an A 4 sheet of paper and see how it looks.

I have both,
Just walnut is more neutral, Egyptian cotton is darker and more beigey.
Both are quite warm and more greige than grey

Egyptian cotton really depends on the light. It is definately more grey than beige in my house. I would have preferred something more beige.

My mum had Egyptian Cotton in a large light room in her house and it was fine. I have it in a smaller darker room in my house and it is hideous it makes the entire room brown. I want to repaint it white.

I went with it to match the tiles on our fire place. That is a hideous colour so not sure why I did that. I am hopeless at working out what goes but feel as though I have been living in a brown depressing room. It didn't feel like that at all at my mum's.
