We’re renovating our house in the summer and I’ve planned out I want to do with every other room in our house but drawing a blank with the living room. I need ideas for colour schemes, furniture, flooring the lot!

In terms of furniture, work out the functions of the room first, e.g. entertaining, watching tv, book storage, play area for children etc. That should be a good guide to what furniture you need - how much storage, how much seating etc. In terms of actual style and colours, best just carry on from the rest of the house so that it looks coherent.

Following for ideas. About to move into our first owned home. I've had purple and teal in the living room for years. We need a change!

Layout has been worked out and we know we need a 3 & 2 seater sofa, a new tv stand and a couple of side tables, I’m normally pretty good at getting an idea of what I like and pulling it all together but I’m really struggling this time, can’t even find sofas we like 🤦🏼‍♀️ we’re planning on having Hague blue in the diner bit of the kitchen diner with some copper and pink accents/accessories so I’m not sure what colour we could carry through to the living room as DP has already Vetoed more pink.

Haha... I was only allowed a bit of pink in the laundry room + pink drawer handles in the sideboard Grin

I reckon you could use pretty neutral colours in your living room but add blue cushions or a rug with blue in it to continue from the diner. And carry on with copper. If you like colour, you could introduce another accent colour too. I think green could work well.

Sounds exciting! Have you thought about grey sofas? These are quite gender neutral and work well with most themes. Having plain furniture is not only transitional, but will act as a plain canvas for some of your favorite copper and pink accents like cushions.

The sofa itself can act as a statement too, for example if you want a luxurious style maybe a Chesterfield style or for a more modern style you could go for a straight, rectangular style sofa with a low back.

Here are some grey toned sofa styles to help get your creative juices flowing!

Hi, I work in interiors so maybe I could help. What kind of mood are you looking for in the living room? Does your layout have space for accessories? Would you prefer the walls to be more decorative or the accessories to provide the interest and focus?
