Egyptian cotton - dingy?

I need to recarpet 2 flights of stairs, and paint two hallways and landings. Ground floor hallway (and other ground floor rooms) has wooden oak flooring, which will definitely be staying. It's quite a golden oak colour - it works well with warm beige-y tones.

Floors 1 and 2 have been recently decorated, and have grey as the dominant neutral.

I think we're going to go for a dark oatmeal colour carpet, which should hopefully go with both the beige-y downstairs and the grey upstairs, but we won't make the final choice on that until the hallway/stairs/landing are painted.

I need a hall/stairs/landing paint in a greigey colour to pull it all together. I seem to have spent a fortune on testers and am still undecided.

Current front runners are Egyptian cotton and Just Walnut.

Egyptian cotton is definitely the colour I had in my minds eye, and will work really well with both beige and grey - but in my small hallway - particularly the darker downstairs - I'm worried it looks really dingy, and will make everything dark.

Just Walnut is nice and light, but it looks very much grey in our space, without much in the way of beige-y tones.

Anyone got any suggestions? I'd probably prefer to stick with Dulux (easily obtainable and we've found it easier to apply than other brands in the past).

Maybe we should just go with the Egyptian cotton?

Big fan of Egyptian cotton have it in living room, hall and stairs and bedroom. Neutral, not dingy. Greige. If you search on here there was s thread a few months ago about Egyptian cotton and I put some photos on.

Hmm - I was dead set on Egyptian Cotton for our hall stairs and landing. However, I painted a test patch on the bare plaster at the top of the stairs and it's the same colour. I too am concerned it will be dingy in the darker, downstairs areas. What about Natural Hessian or Natural Calico instead?

Had calico in last house hall and stairs. Nice enough, more cream. Light. My mum has natural hessian, darker and more beige. Try painting samples on paper then you can move around to see how they look in different places?

It's funny isn't it how everyone sees colours differently. We have Egyptian Cotton on our hall / stairs / landing and it's not dingy or like bare plaster . It is quite light though with lots of natural light. It's been up for 2+ years now and still looks good (I'm sure we used the Endurance type though).

I was really disappointed with Natural Calico. We'd lined the walls with lining paper then painted over it with Natural Calico and there was no difference at all. It looked like lining paper.

I like Pebble Shore (more grey than beige though).

Have a look at skimming stone by f and b and get it copied in your preferred brand. We have it in the lounge, I will try to post a pic

Skimming stone is lovely but the grey tones show heavily in a room without much natural light. I’ve only seen it look cream in very light settings.

Another lovely dulux one is Chalky Downs, number 5 is a gorgeous soft beige which contrasts nicely with white and is very neutral. It’s also lighter than an oatmeal carpet.
