2' 6" bed - yay or nay?

My daughter has the box room. I want to replace the current "shortie" cabin bed she has. The room can accommodate a full length single but I'm contemplating a 2' 6" width. A full width will fit but leave very little floor space. Can anyone offer advice? She is 9 but very tall, otherwise average sized. 😊

What about a day bed? You will have room under the bed and could weave a string of LED lights instead of a bedside light.

I like the look of a day bed but the quilt not being able to hang down both sides would really get to me! I'll think about it as a maybe though.

How long is this bed meant to last her? I was 5'4 at 11 already so that's the same size as some adult women. Sounds like your daughter might reach similar size soon enough. Perhaps you could try these very narrow beds in the shop to see if you'd find it comfy? Doesn't sound too nice to me.

I slept on one til I was about 15 and got a double. They were more commonplace thirty or forty years ago. It’s just what you’re used to. Same as DH and I now share a standard 4’6” double which many people would now rule out as too small, and choose a kingsize instead. When we share a kingsize in a hotel or whatever, I hate being so far away from him!
The only disadvantage I can see of a narrower bed, is if she’s still of an age to want bedtime stories or a cuddle etc, there’s not much room for a second person.

My brother slept in a 2’ 6” shortie bed until he left home in his late 20’s. He’s just over 6 feet tall and a slim build, and as far as I know he never complained about the size of his.bed or the size of his bedroom which was the smallest room in the house.

Sorry for the delay in thanking you for the replies and advice but thanks for your replies and advice. No decision made yet but edging towards narrow single as I think my DS would "get used" to the size and appreciate the bit of extra floor space it would give her in her room. Thanks again for taking the time.

I was at boarding school and we all had 2'6" beds until 18. It was a long time ago but I bet they haven't put in bigger beds since. Also have shared a 3' single as a student though that was crowded! I think it's a good idea but then that's easy for me to say when it's not my bed.

My husband was still in 2'6" when I met him! Penniless student but he was quite happy. Needless to say, I insisted on an upgrade!
