Open fire or wood burner

Just that really - we currently have a small open fire in the living room which we use perhaps a dozen times a year. Love the atmosphere it provides, but it does not hear the whole room but too hot to have the CH on at the same time. We've been quoted for a wood burning stove and it's fairly costly; so I'm wondering if it's worth the money?

Wood burners are more efficient than open fires.

I’d fit one if I’d use it and wasn’t planning the move in the next few years.

Thank you. I think we would use the wood burner much more often than the fire for precisely that reason.

Open fires lose 80% of their heat up the chimney, but with log fires it's only 20%, so a log fire is better it you want to use it for heating up your room.

If you're not too bothered about the heat, if you prefer the look of an open fire, stick with an open fire.
