Pendant lights hanging from skylight

Any idea how pendant lights can be fixed to a skylight? Our dining table will under a large skylight, which is made up of 5 sheets of glass with 4 aluminium supports in between and I would like to hang pendant lights so that they fall immediately above the dining table. This means that they somehow need to hang from the skylight... Any ideas / photos for how to do this would be massively appreciated!

I was wondering about fixing the light fitting to the timber at the edge of the skylight and then installing hooks in the aluminium supports between the glass so that the flex of the pendants can run horizontally across, then through the hook and down over the centre of the table, but the builder isn't sure if this will be possible... Any other thoughts?

And with 4 aluminium supports, how many pendants would you go for? I'd originally imagined 3, but that might look unbalanced... Would 4 be too much?

Any thoughts / ideas you've used in your home very welcome! Thanks!

I have a photo that might be useful but I've reached my photo limit today. I'll post it tomorrow. instagram.com/p/BebBsz2lZbC/

@4yearsnosleep - Ooh, that's very useful, thank you! I was talking to builder about something similar but he seemed to think that because of the size of our skylight, the metal rod that the pendants are looped over would bow...? Any ideas for a type of material that we could use for that support that could take the weight of 3 similar pendants without bowing?

Surely some sort of metal cable with bolts into the wall each end. Or a solid metal rod? There must be a fairly easy solution. I'd chat to the local builders yard? I just had a quick google and it looks like I mean metal rope.... http://www.jakobstainlesssteel.co.uk/light-2-part-loop-clamp-with-thimble-for-5mm-rope-m6-552-p.asp?ppckeyword=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIib2tx6uX2QIV7pztCh2iAAOfEAQYASABEgLssfDD_BwE

@4yearsnosleep - Yes - I think that would work. Builder things it would sag as running such a long distance, but surely if it's properly tensioned, it should be fine...? Thanks for the links!

I don't think so. Speak to a specialist that sells it and choose a cable with a weight rating a lot higher than the weight of your pendants. (Its used for zip lining! So weight won't be an issue). You can spray paint it a different colour if you don't like the steel x
