What stair carpet with patterned tiles?

Hi all. We are doing up a Victorian terrace and going for traditional style patterned tiles in the hallway. We would like to carpet the stairs and landing, but can't have loop carpet as we have a cat, so need to get twist.

I'm really struggling to find something that looks good as anything patterned clashes with the tiles and I haven't found a plain one that looks good - does anyone else have this problem or have any good ideas?

We have a cat. She has destroyed our loop-pile stair carpet (which was already there when we moved in). And yet - we're still getting another loop carpet when we replace it, sometime in the next year. I think this is utter madness, but the guy at the carpet shop swears by a particular brand that he has installed in both his own and his mother's house, they both have cats, and the cats haven't been able to claw it because the loop is so tight.

Personally, I am dubious, but DH is completely sold - largely because he wants a stripe, and stripes look best in loops. I'm going along with it, because 1) DH promised we can replace them again if cat makes a mess of them and 2) frankly, my cat has form destroying twist pile carpets as well, so it probably doesn't matter anyway.

But! After that long, rambling post - the brand is Telenzo, and while stripe will probably clash with your tiles, they have lots of choice in neutrals too and do look very smart. Assuming, that is, you believe a carpet salesman you've never even met about its cat-proof qualitiesSmile

I'd second a flat-weave. Very hardwearing
