My bed is driving me mad

Need some advice on pillows, duvets and bedlinen please. Having terrible nights sleep night after night and with 5 month old DS waking for night feeds I could really do with all the help I can get.

Pillows - DH likes a really thin pillow, the cheaper the better, so any old off the supermarket shelf thing is fine for him. I like something thicker but quite firm, nothing that you head sinks into. Everything goes flat in no time, what should I be looking for?

Duvet - I think this is where the problem lies. Again, DH likes a thin duvet but since we swapped our summer 4.5 tog duvet for a 9 tog for the winter we are sweating at night, but anything less is too cold. I feel like I should be looking for something with natural filling but there are so many on the market I don't know where to start.

Bed linen - have M & S jersey at the moment which was nice to start with but has gone bobbly. Recommendations for cool, crisp linen which doesn't need ironing please.

Sorry should add, mattress is good quality, firm, 5 years old, no topper.

We have a protector on the mattress, not a topper. I always buy easy care bed linen - poly cotton usually - which can be tumble dried and is never ironed. I've bought from M&S, TK Maxx, Justlinen.co.uk.

Recently I bought some Silentnight pillows for a new spare bed - they have a striped cover and were from Argos - they seem good. I ended up sleeping in the spare bed when I was full of a cold.

Do you open the bedroom window to air the room after you've got up and how soon before you go to bed does the heating go off? 9 tog is what I would think of as Spring or Autumn weight for a duvet.

Dh likes a big firm pillow. He has an IKEA bandblad which seems to work for him. I like a squishy feather/down pillow myself!

We've recently bought a wool filled duvet and it's amazing. Much less sweaty than anything we've had before. I love it.

We have a pure wool duvet - fantastic all year round, would not use anything else.

We have a wool duvet from m&s which works well and is not bulky, occasionally put a blanket on top in the very cold weather.

Two single duvets of whatever tog you find most comfortable (my dp and I have never shared a duvet too much difference in preference)

Pillow: IKEA memory foam with a dip for neck support. DOn't know the name.

Bedding: Sainsburys does good cotton bedding. Easy to care for as well.

Duvet: No idea. In the summer I use a cotton flatsheet instead of a duvet.

My firm pillows vary from White Company, M&S and IKEA. The IKEA ones are by far the most comfy, with M&S second and WC last

For pillows I use a hollowfibre one for my underneath pillow and for firmness and a feather one for the top pillow which my head can sink into a bit. If you do get a feather pillow, make sure you get a pillow protector which stops the spikey bits scratching you in the night.
We have an old 13.5 tog duvet so is a bit thin now and have a blanket over the top for chilly nights.
If you can, and aren't already, have a small window locked into the airing position so you get some air in the night. We have ours like this all year round otherwise we feel blurgh in the morning.

I really rate M&S for sheets - they are lovely and smooth and cool, and they wash and tumble really, really well. Having had a number of disasters with other suppliers (including John Lewis, which were expensive but bobbled badly), I don't get them from anywhere else now.

You would be surprised but asda George bedding has proven to be the crispest ! I don't like any of the clothing form there and an not mad about the house ware stuff but the bedding - I've stopped buying from m&s and John Lewis now . They have a great range of prints too. Their brushed cotton sheets are fabulous but so are their other ones .

Ooo wow thanks for all this great advice! As I thought I think our problem is the synthetic duvet so I'll look at wool ones. Am going past an Asda tomorrow so will also look at bedding, if no good there I'll have a look at John Lewis as we have vouchers to use there.
