Farrow & Ball Or Dulux Heritage?

We've had a couple of painters round to quote on doing some rooms - we have picked out some Farrow & Ball paints that we like. Both painters have commented that F&B isn't good quality paint, and that Dulux Heritage is better. We got the swatches for Dulux and they are very similar colours, haven't got any sample pots yet.

Has anyone else heard the 'bad quality' opinion about F&B? Does the Dulux Heritage have the same flat, chalk-paint finish?

We've used F&B in most of our house and it's brilliant quality. Never used Dulux Heritage so can't compare but F&B is much better than the Valspar we used in our living room and dining room.

We used some dulux heritage in the hallway and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks. I’d buy it again.

We have farrow and ball in the bathroom and haven’t had any problems with it.

F & B paint tends to be thinner & need more coats to look good. The paint costs more & the painters cost more. As long as that doesn't bother you it's fine.

We did our whole flat in Deluxe Heritage recently when we had a massive rebuild/refurb. It was a fraction of the price of Farrow and Ball and I loved the colour range. I am very happy with the results.

F&B is excellent quality, and it looks great. I can't comment on the Dulux Heritage, as I've never used it. Professional decorators seem not to like working with F&B - I'm not sure why that is, because personally I love painting with it; it's much more of a pleasure to use than other paints I've tried.

Interesting to hear your opinions - I think we might get some tester pots for the Dulux Heritage and see how it compares. We've used F&B on some up cycling projects (dresser, chest of drawers etc) but not on walls yet.

I’ll only use Lakeland paint. Beautifully chalky, great pigment and no VOCs (you can eat the paint if you want to). Just finished painting my living room in it. 💖

Found that you need to put more coats of the Fallow & Ball

I have dulux heritage cream on the walls in my sitting room. Done about 18 years ago. I do need to redecorate in here but it's more age related than because the paint on the walls looks terrible. It washes well and I would use it again. In fact I'll probably just use the same colour again as it was the perfect cream shade to match the cream background in my curtains. Never used farrow and ball, I think the price put me off last time!

Dulux Heritage is amazing! Super high pigment and much thicker thank F&B. If you can get the colour that you want then I’d definitely go with that.

Hi, I've only had f and b copies but had kitchen units painted in York white duly heritage. It looks really yellow in the shade chart and on line but it's my idea of the perfect cool shade of cream.

I’m not keen on F&B it’s very thin & coverage is not great, also I don’t find it as durable as Dulux paint, I have Dulux heritage in the Hall way, it’s really thick & easy to work with.
Another premium paint I really like is Mylands, not such an extensive choice of colours as F&B but great depth of colour & covers really well.
Very hard wearing as the matt emulsion, has crushed marble in it so very scrubable.

I've used both. Dulux heritage is fine but doesn't give the same colour finish I like from FB. FB marks easily and isn't easy to wipe. The modern emulsion is ok for this (just about). Dulux Heritage is great and hard wearing. I have still chosen to replace Dulux with FB. It isn't colour intensity but the chalky flatness that is fabulous with FB. I am replacing FB estate emulsion with FB modern emulsion. In my kitchen the modern is fine. However it is constantly being marked in the hallway and stairs. So I might rethink my paint choice there. Otherwise FB everytime. I have added water to thin the coats and this didn't alter coverage. I used multiple coats where there was a high contrast colour change. This weekend I repainted blue ground (mid blue) over a light pink and didn't need multiple coats. Vardo (teal) however, over a pale yellow needed three coats. There's always the FB undercoat...

Colortrend is by dulux and is absolutely gorgeous paint. They have a new ceramic finish paint and your painter will love you if you use it, it’s amazing.
They have nice colours, definitely check them out they are expensive but not as much as farrow and ball but it gives a great finish.

When I told our decorator I was torn between a few F and B colours he suggested I looked at the Dulux heritage range.He said if I wanted F and B fair enough but he much preferred the coverage of Dulux .We found a couple of lovely colours and it was also cheaper. Like them so much when we redecorate will use them again.

F&B is much better and easier to use. Heritage is like painting with jam. F&B is cream. Heritage is far too stiff to apply and does not spread easily. Even thinning it down it is still hard to spread evenly.
