Living room opens into garden - boot storage etc ideas?

Live in a modern end-terrace, access to back garden from house is via patio doors in living room (have gate at side of house for external access to back from front - for bins etc.).

I’d like to use a little bit of the space around the patio doors to create a sort of “boot/mud room”-type area. Somewhere to keep garden shoes, coats, etc. hidden away, and to put them on/take them off, without getting dirt all over the living room carpet (cream!!). Especially now that toddler DS is walking and enjoys playing in the garden, whatever the weather!

At the moment we just have a doormat inside the patio doors, and shoes are shoved under a coffee table between sofa and wall.

Is this a ‘thing’? Does anyone in the lovely hive mind here have any ideas? Or know what words I could tap into Pinterest to find inspiration? Thanks!

Following as we are moving soon and think we will need something similar!

A google search for 'boot room in garden' brought these ideas up, a kind of lean-to?

cunning thank you! I did not realise that is what I wanted, now it is all that I want haha! I was originally thinking more of some kind of interiors trickery to set aside a small area internally around the patio doors, but the lean-to option is so much better!

You're welcome! I think the advantage of having outside is it's not taking up any space from living room then, and it (in theory) keeps mess will and truly outside! Also in my head kids could play in it in wet weather. I want one to! No idea how to go about it though, DH isn't what you call handy and I don't know one end of a screwdriver from the other.

A friend of mine had a similar set up but didn’t have the spare money to build a proper boot room. They put on a lean to greenhouse a bit like

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-x-4-5ft-Gardenman-Aluminium-Frame-Walk-In-Greenhouse-Grow-Plants-Green-House/292125999544?_trkparms=aid%3D555019%26algo%3DPL.BANDIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190540%26meid%3De74b3a42228440feb6bbd3c5e39a7d79%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26&_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226

Attached to the house over patio door using silicone sealant and some wall fixings. Put some Astro turf on the floor and a stack and store box for wellies. Worked well plus it could still be used as a greenhouse for growing toms and cucumber in the summer.

cant aha thank you, definitely a more economical version! Shame I already found the brochure for one of the lovely handmade timber-framed ones from cunning’s link Wink (the good thing is even DH is keen - after being unconvinced that what I described in my OP was even a ‘problem’ Grin)
