Decorating concrete building to look more natural

So we're building a hotel/guesthouse in Indonesia. It's a concrete shell at the moment, five (!) stories high but in a rural location.

Here's a similar type of construction belonging to someone else:

What lessons would you learn from that example? (not intended as criticism of that place more for me to try and plan in advance how to avoid)

My thoughts:

  • Bathroom basically looks ok I think, some minor details (no toilet roll holder, toilet shouldn't face door, towel storage under sink, shaving point, mirror lighting)

  • Balcony.

Barrier to adjoining room should be six feet high I think!?

Windows seem to open directly into seating!

Different kind of barrier on the balcony (the wall is I think designed to make a pattern but it's blocking the sight line right in the middle surely, and it's fundamentally not very attractive)? A lot of people use stainless steel 1.bp.blogspot.com/-ONWMPLN-J9U/VTKDwb0HzqI/AAAAAAAAAGU/fqoJ96sxLC0/s1600/pagar%2Bstainlees%2Bbjs%2Bbengkel%2Blas.jpg but I think it looks horrid. I think wood maybe the way to go? This is what I have in current place. i.imgur.com/7WoEZo9.jpg Should be ok if protected from rain.

What would you go for fencing off elevated areas exposed to rain (need to be able to see through)? This is not too bad? probohindarto.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/pagarhijau12.jpg (ignoring the plants) Or just glass? www.peluangproperti.com/images/artimg/2013-12-28/[email protected]

  • Bedrooms are nice and clean and modern but it's basically an empty concrete box with furniture in. What's needed to lose that feeling, either at the construction or the furnishing stage?

Wall finish maybe ok but needs some art work, tapestries, maybe?

Windows I think better in stained wood. Not sure about the white.

    Built-in wardrobes?

Different tiles? (wooden flooring is I think too high maintenance and laminate is shit) Those look like they are 30cmx30cm and I think 60cmx60cm would be much better or maybe even 1mx1m. Also not sure about the glossy 'supermarket' look?

Higher ceilings (ours will be 3.5m)? The ceiling is I think standard

Lighting - looks like there are switches on both sides of the bed but no reading lights?

  • Building exterior. Quite ok from the outside. Lots of wood carving. (But the garden desperately needs some plants).

Our place is an exterior mess! See rendering ((Ignore the height of piers)

Going to stick a two storey wooden restaurant on the top there.

No idea but I want to visit when you've opened! Will it be an eco type hotel or more of a typical hotel?
