I need paint recommendations, Please? good coverage emulsion and one for skirting etc

I've just recently bought my first house. Moved in this week.
The Whole Shebang - everything needs painting.

I've never done my own painting before and I can't afford any costly mistakes!

I need good emulsion. One of the rooms has a quite dark brown on the walls (yes, brown!)

The glossed skirting/doorframes, all have yellowed. Some are actually painted yellowish cream. All are chipped.
Do we still gloss or are there other wood paint options these days?

There are a few instances of adhesive that has been splashed about (on walls, not wood) do I need a stain guard type paint to truly cover those?

Any help will be greatly appreciated ❤️

For woodwork we put on an all in one primer and undercoat (after sanding down and washing with sugar soap) and then a one coat silk gloss. Easy and looks good.
Paint wise we did a few coats of plain white emulsion (trade paint in a giant tub about £20) then out on two coats of colour (dulux or b&q trade). Prepare for all it to take much longer than you think but will be worth it. Good luck!

Instead of gloss I have been using satinwood. It is nicer than gloss and no nasty smell. Also easy to wash out of your brushes.

Walls wise. I'd recommend using a cheap white to cover up and then when the horrible paint is covered paint with a more expensive one.

Actually - yes it was satinwood we used as well - much easier than gloss but found it no easier to remove from brushes (or my toes!)

I would use a water based satin wood , less smelly and more importantly it doesn't yellow with age , usually you apply 3 coats

Ive just painted my living room and covered over some very bold feature wallpaper. Used two coats of white primer/undercoat and then two coats of Dulux emulsion and no more blue flowers! Used satin wood on the woodwork and it all looks fab. Only 4 more rooms and the stairs and landing to go... 😩

We used eggshell paint from little greene for all our woodwork. Pricey but easy to paint with and dried very quickly. Looks great.

sorry I've not been back, turns out researching colour schemes on Pinterest is all consuming and you can lose all track of time!

What do you think of getting a textured linen look wallpaper and painting it? Some of the walls are lumpy and not the best lookers.
Plus, I'm not a fan of prints.

It’s not the same but my wallpaper that now isn’t was textured and although it’s now painted over you can still see the pattern and I rather like it. It’s very subtle and gives a little bit of difference to the wall without being different to the rest of the room.

Wilko's own brand paint is meant to be very, very good - better than the big name brandS.

I have recently used Wilko paint. The satinwood is fine but the matt isn't. The colours aren't great either.
Little Greene do the best paint, no question. Dulux is ok. Always use an undercoat, it's worth it, and prepare surfaces (eg sanding) properly.
I second that it will all take longer than you think!
