Anyone got a hob in a peninsula/island unit?

I'm in the process of planning my new kitchen for the extension we're starting in September and would ideally like to put the hob in the peninsula section which faces the dining area so that I can chat to guests when I'm cooking. Has anyone got this arrangement? What did you do about extraction? Is there an issue with fat splashing on to the floor in front of the hob? Thanks.

We have an induction hob on our island. I wanted an extractor in the ceiling but due to steel in roof ended up spending much more on one that sits behind it and can be raised by a push of a button

So pleased with it as much more effective than I thought it would be

You should ensure it is ducted outside though as will be useless otherwise

Hi. i have this lay out, centered the extractor over the hob and the duct was led through the ceiling above.
I always think a sink looks messy on an island, always something in there, hob looks much neater, induction is great. No fat at all lands around it.
see where your RSJ's will be placed, ours ran straight over the island and was a pain fitting the extractor correctly.

Look at a down draft extractor, we have a sizeable island with a 5 zone induction and down draft in front of it. You do have to be prepared to get your ducting in whilst the floor is going down and heavily recommend 6" if you can

We have our hob on an island and our extractor fan isn't ducted externally.

It's a fan then but it's not extracting by definition?

No, it does extract from the immediate area. It draws in fumes/heat/smells from above the hob and then whooshes them out at ceiling height. So it doesn't extract externally but it disperses at a great speed, dissipating steam and smells. I imagine the vast majority of extractor fans aren't ducted externally, when you think about the physical reality of many kitchens - in flats, tucked into spaces where there was never a kitchen originally, beneath extensions. I've never had an externally vented fan in all the many kitchens I've cooked in.
