Stair cladding, stair runners or full carpet

Hello, does anyone have any experience with stair cladding? We are redoing our carpeted stairs, the wood underneath is nothing special so looking at options on what to do.

Options are the 3 mentioned above, obviously a full carpet is the easiest, does anyone have any experience/tips with the other 2?
