These are in the "new" place we are moving to in two week. We are free to do what we want with them we have another baby on the way.
We are reusing our Ds2 cot for her when she's big enough but haven't got her another furniture so would like to recycle these somehow and modernise them up a bit.

Need some inspiration what would you do to them?

I'd look at Pinterest and get some upcycling inspiration.

Would decals stick to them?

www.vinylimpression.co.uk
Dunno if the company is any good but there's a lot of other ones available

I would leave them exactly as they are! They're beautiful mid century pieces and fit beautifully with that dark smoky blue. They'd also work well in a blush pink / pale grey scheme for a little girl. Please don't paint them!!

What an amazing looking room!
Is that a proper cast iron radiator?
And yes, just a good polish up and keep them as they are. I use lavender wax on my similar wardrobe.

If you decide that you still want to paint them, I wanted a linen cupboard to fit in the 75cm alcove that we have in our bedroom. I bought one off eBay like yours, the one with drawers. The past owners had sanded and left it as it was, we painted it blue with chalk paint and finished it by waxing. The colour picks up accents of blue in the paintings that we have in our bedroom.

But yes, gorgeous furniture you have there. I would consider leaving it as it is. Beautiful room.

there's lots of lovely little gems we have been left and can use through out the place. Yes the whole place has cast iron radiator in every room Grin
I was going to paint them if am honest but I am rethinking it a little will definitely not do it until I have redecorated they aren't staying in that room. A little sleigh dark wood bed would match lovely Hmm

I have just painted my daughter's wardrobe - but it was 15 year old IKEA melamine. I wouldn't repaint yours - they are lovely just as they are.

Yes, PLEASE don't paint them. They are beautiful. How about lining the drawers and doors with some gorgeous wallpaper for a pop of colour or pattern every time you open them?

Ooh no leave them as they are!

I really like white or grey painted furniture but they are lovely. I love that whole room actually.

Do you have any more pics of the house or would it be a bit outing? 👃🏻 I bet it's gorgeous.

It was worth a try. Grin Just think how beautiful it's going to be when it's done. Keep focused on that. It's already stunning.

I wouldn't hesitate to paint them or sell them if they didn't fit.
It's all well and good saying leave them but I personally love the style but loathe dark wood.

I would polish them and paint the handles to give them a contemporary look especially if you are changing the paint of the room to a neutral colour. Best of luck with your new move.

ijustwannadance · 09/05/2017 21:45

You are allowed to paint the paneling too!

My living room has a huge dark wood fire place surround. It's going to be painted soon.
Old stuff is great, but unless valuable, there is no point leaving it if you don't like it out of some misplaced sentiment.

Paint it, love it, use it.

Are you the poster with the MIl upstairs? If so that fireplace is stunning. I'm pretty jealous of your place already!
