What type of shoe storage for new living room extension with sliding doors to garden?

So we used to have mats on the floor by the back french doors that led from our conservatory (used as dining room) to garden. The garden crocs were sort of lined up along the mats. Not very attractive. We now have a brand new lovely extension instead which is now the living room. There are sliding doors to the garden (4 panels of glass - two fixed and the two in the middle slide). So I need some mats there and some way of storing the garden shoes but lining them up in my living room will look ugly. 5 people in the household so lots of shoes! What should I used? I don't want anything long and large taking up space so maybe something taller/deeper?

Are the sliding doors only access to garden or do you have another door somewhere else ?

Well we have another new extension that is the dining room part of the kitchen. It has french doors opening to the garden. I did consider whether it would be better to go in and out that way, but space is tighter around the table. Also, I think it might be odd stopping kids from coming in and out the living room. Not sure though.

What about a picnic hamper basket or something similar by the door?

Ikea do some shoe storage cupboards which just look like normal cupboards with three compartments. They also have a shoe cabinet which it says you can stack

I like the picnic hamper type idea best I think. Or a wicker basket of some kind with a lid.

Thanks!
