What would you do with this room?

Just had offer accepted on a lovely period apartment, very excited and starting to think about colours etc. This will be my new living room, what would you do with it if it was yours?

It's lovely . Love the fireplace! I would obviously be keeping that and the picture rail. It looks very light-filled - is it? And are you keeping the carpet? Do you have furniture already or are you buying new?

I would definitely be putting colour on the walls - first instincts F&B Pigeon or Hardwick White or even Inchrya Blue, as those suit the period feel. Window dressings I would keep simple - I hate fussy curtains - but long and neutral and probably pale if I was using a strong colour on the walls.

It's really very light. I do have furniture but will need to replace over time as it won't 'go' (think IKEA and brown leather sofa). I'll be keeping the carpet as it's the same throughout the apartment.

I was thinking of celestial blue for the walls (little greene) and a grey sofa or maybe I should go with more of a grey/ white palette and a teal/blue sofa?

Thanks donkey, I'm very excited too. The apartment has two equally lovely bedrooms with the same big bay window so I'm sure I'll be back for advice for them too!

Madame I've just moved into very similar sounding 3 bed Victorian flat! I'm also looking for inspiration as it's all very white at the moment. We have a bit of restoration to do too on our windows. Would love to know how you get on (and perhaps borrow an idea or two)

I'll keep you posted. It's early days though, haven't even had the survey done yet but my buyers have been given notice on their rented accommodation so we are aiming for 23 June for completion
