What colour with grey sofa?

Good morning!

I've lived at my home for 10 years and, apart from when we first moved in, haven't decorated, mainly due to finances.

I've finally bit the bullet and decided the house needs 'doing'. Have done DD room and it looks lovely! Next room is the living room.

I've decided on the Ikea Ektorp sofa in Norvalla Grey, and am struggling with what colour to paint the walls.

I'm also getting new furniture so it's all up in the air.

The room faces West and gets full sun from around 2pm.

I was thinking of Goose Down from dulux. Or a sagey green, but I'm not sure.

Could someone offer some advice? It's been years since I've done this.

Grey Ikea sofas here (not same range but I think same colour) and we've gone for lilac/heather tones in wallpaper, soft furnishings, etc, but have kept the curtains grey. Looks fab!

I have the same sofas and have used Crown mustard jar and antique White. I have orla keily and assorted cushions with a black and off white chevron rug and Scandinavian style floor lamp.

Have you sat on the Ektorp? The seat is very short.

I've got grey sofas, with duck-egg blue walls, duck-egg blue check roman blinds and am debating whether to use yellow or a heathery colour as the accent.

Ditto the above. I've got a grey ikea ektorp sofa. I've got a Laura Ashley duck egg wallpaper on two walls, Roman blinds in the same fabric on the windows, but then a cream rug in herringbone flooring, a cushions are a mix of duck egg, orla kiely cream on grey stems, a mustard pleated silk.

My seats are not short?! I'm a portly size 16 5ft 6 and I'm curled up on mine now with loads of space as is rugby playing massive DH!

Lilac/light heathery colour or pale/duck egg blue I think (splash of turquoise with the latter if you're feeling brace)

Also have a grey sofa (and a house that hasn't been decorated for 10yrs!). I like the 70s vibe, so have accessorised with orange and grey geometric cushions and intend to paint walls grey with orange paint on the chimney breast (most people don't like my tastes though Grin)

The seats felt short to us. Well worth sitting on them for a while in the shop. We would have bought them otherwise. OH is 6'4 with very long legs and the seat stopped too far up his legs - I'm only 5'5 but felt uncomfy. Our sofa seats are 5cm deeper, which seems to make enough difference.

I've got a massive grey corner sofa (it's truly my favourite thing I have ever owned) and I have a pink and grey theme with biggest walls painted pale pink, and a silver grey and white wallpapered chimney breast. Plus loads of pink cushions.

It's an entire girls house, me, partner and 2 DD's and it is very 'pink'

We are all 6ft plus in our house and have no problems with the seat width.

Here's our living room. We went for a DFS corner sofa and then a forest green accent wall. Still haven't got around to hanging the picture yet...

I love the forest green. Would you share the brand/paint colour?

slinkysaluki That's why I keep saying the OP needs to go and sit on the sofa for a while. It wouldn't have worked for my DP but as Ikea sell so many then other people obviously think it is comfy. My mum has the leather one and agrees (my two 6ft+ brothers are still at home).

I really wanted them so it was annoying.

We've got Dulux Perfectly Taupe on the walls and accents of gold, lilac and purple on cushions, lampshades etc.

Yellow, teal, pink, green would all work.

Primal. Yes my husband did go to ikea and sit on the sofa to check it out as I'd heard they were narrow so yes good idea to check first.

Trinity. Thanks the Orla Kiely ones are from. eBay and the others just random buys that have caught my eye. It's a bit of a joke in my house that i have a cushion fetish !

Nearly everything goes with grey but I particularly like mustard yellow with it.
