We're looking for a new sofa / armchair combo and I'm wondering what people's experiences are of the various makes / shops. So far we've looked in Next (was impressed), Sofology (wasn't sure of the quality), Harveys (ok) and SCS (thoroughly underwhelmed), as these are local to us. We're going to Ikea and John Lewis tomorrow too.

Just wondering if anyone has sofa from any of these places and what the quality is like. How does the furniture hold up over time? Current sofa is about 10 years old and is saggy and uncomfortable, and tbh I would have expected it to last a bit longer considering how expensive it was!

Looking for a leather one, if that makes a difference. TIA.

John Lewis and M&S sofas are ok in my experience.

I have had one from Next which very quickly sagged in the middle. I have also (currently) got two from laura ashley and all I can say is PLEASE AVOID! We have two sofas - large and small - have had them six months and the seat cushions on the largest one are really saggy/baggy. They were like this within two weeks of delivery but LA refused to accept any kind of responsibility for them - just said "that's what happens to big sofas". The small sofa is still fine. They look a bloody mess and are a huge disappointment!

Thanks for the tips mrsc, we can have a look in M&S too (hadn't thought of there). A bit gutted to hear that the Next sofa wasn't up to much long-term - those are the ones that impressed us the most on first inspection. Ah well.

I know! They are so attractive and feel so great in the shop! So annoying. Maybe we just had bad luck? It was a few years ago - think the model was sonoma or something? Maybe they've improved? Maybe someone else will be along to advise that theirs is great...?

Can I may put in an AVOID for Habitat, in case it ever crosses your mind. Just got rid of our two toys weekend, 8 yeasts old but to be honest, they'd had it after about 18 months.

Has anyone bought a sofa from Costco? They have some nice ones on the website but not available to view in our local warehouse.

We bought a large corner sofa from Sofa.com and 6 years on i still love it, very comfortable, covers wash well and hold their shape well. I would buy from them again but they're slightly more than my budget this time around.

I can absolutely recommend Multi York. Very comfortable and great build quality. You absolutely get what you pay for.

Multi York are amazing but £££££
I would never spend that whilst my kids still live at home 😂

Oooh thanks for the additional responses. Just had a look at the Multiyork website: v expensive! And probably a more "traditional" style than we're looking for.

We've been out browsing again today and I think we're veering towards a Next model. Just need to decide on which colour to go for now!

Recently bought one from furniture village. Good quality but it looked rubbish in the room so I returned it (distance selling - 14 day no quibble MBG). Replaced it with an ikea one which is great - solid, a lovely design and gorgeous but tough fabric.
