Hi I've been to Fabb sofas today and I quite liked some of the sofas I saw there but I've never heard of them and don't know anyone who has shopped there! I only know it's linked to DFS....is it a good place to buy sofas? I don't want to be disappointed after saving money for sofas for AGES!!! Thanks

Fabbsofas is owned by Lord Kirkham who used to own DFS. It is not affiliated in any way with DFS but there are also a few directors from DFS who have went with Lord Kirkham to start this venture.

I would be interested to know if anyone has had a sofa from them also as they are opening in Edinburgh and I am wary of such a new company with no history for such a big purchase

Yes I have - very good product and incredible after-sales service (Nottingham branch).

Highly recommend.

Hi there

I bought a sofa from the Nottingham branch (delivered last week). Product brilliant, staff amazing and after-sales support incredible). You won't be disappointed. These seem to me to be the best in the business.

I have a slightly different experience.
I ordered a sofa in April which turned up in July as planned, and it was the wrong one! I ordered a right hand corner, and got a left hand corner. The delivery guys left it so I would have something to sit on, but it obviously doesn't fit in my room.
I contacted them straight away, and for the next 2-3 days played phone tag with them, and it's now been 7 weeks and after initially being told we wouldn't have to wait another 12 weeks for a replacement, each time I call, I'm told they are still waiting for an update from the manufacturer. To add insult to injury, the finance company (4 years interest free!) despite being told by me that we hadn't had the goods, they have still taken the first payment for it!
Mistakes happen, and it's how you deal with them that's important. but so far they haven't been brilliant about fixing the error.

I have also had a terrible experience with Fabb sofas.

Was misadvised in store and sold a different size to the one we were told we were looking at. When we found the mistake they were very accusatory and said we should have checked the specifications - I would have thought going in to store and asking your sales staff would have been the correct way to do this!

They agreed to change the order after the sales guy admitted he had made a mistake (genuinely grateful to him as I am not sure what would have happened otherwise). We had already waited six weeks for delivery and thought another six was a bit much considering it was their mistake but were assured we would be made a priority. We have had to call them several times over the last two weeks and each time have been assured it would be looked into but no further information has been provided. The last woman said it will be another two weeks before they know if they can speed up delivery, meaning we will have waited a month to find out if they 'might' do as they promised.

No compensation for this 2 and a half month wait for a sofa. Instead they would like an extra £30 up front - if I were them I would have eaten the cost as a good will gesture. Mistakes happen, fine. But as the poster above me said Fabb have a lot to learn when it comes to fixing theirs.

Would strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Whilst it is true to say Fabb Sofas have no actual linkage to DFS its foolish to suggest that as both companies have quite a bit in common as same founder (that being Baron Kirkham a serial party donator to the Conservatives).

About 20 years ago I decided against joining the staff of DFS primarilly because company ethos failed to match up to my own.

The fact is DFS main business model is not the selling of furniture but the selling of a finance package, the furniture is just a minor part of this model, Added to this is the attempt to sell care packages, guarantees, carpet protecting glides. All over priced but such a small monthly sum "Its cheap for peace of mind!"

The interest free credit offer is the key to this business model, I ask readers to think how many bank managers would lend you any some of money without wanting more money back after a prearranged time period. Answer is NONE. why should a furniture company be any different.

The credit offer charge is incorporated in the price of the furniture and the job of the sales consultant is to reduce the duration of the "loan" as much as possible because the cost of financing a shorter loan is cheaper to the retailer.
As a consequence the quality of the furniture was cheap, low with a very limited lifespan, I see nothing in Fabb sofas that suggest the principle is any different.

More depressingly for people who wish to buy furniture that lasts more than a few years the choice is narrowing ever more with each year.
One classic example is Multiyork are in trouble and in my view unlikely to survive, indeed a shame as they at the least made furniture likely to last over 15 years other quality retailers/manufacturers have long since disappeared.
CSL now known as Sofology was purchased by the same company currently owning DFS in November 2017.

It is interesting to note that TV retail guru Mary Portus was allowed into CSL (Sofology) who agreed to end misleading pricing policies after her findings in a channel 4 programme. On this basis if a retailing outlet tries to be more open and transparent about its pricing it can look forward to being part of a takeover bid.

We have two DFS leather sofas, we have given them standard family use for 16 years this year and they are as good as new! ( they were the most expensive very thick "rhino" leather) Our friends have had similar good experiences with DFS. The DFS sofas replaced two very expensive ones I had from Tetrad, after 3 years they were falling apart, started to go threadbare and one by one the legs dropped off, they said "wear and tear" and wouldn't compensate.

So it looks like Fabb Sofas haven't stood the test of time as they went into administration as of last night! Hopefully none of you lovely people
are waiting for a sofa from them and if you have I'd be contacting them asap

Just wondering really, since moving down south I find it really strange people say I "brought" something when infact they mean they bought it, Brought is to bring and bought is to buy, why do people say brought instead of bought?! Do they not know the difference or is it just the done thing in certain areas of the country?
