Cost of Decorator to Wallpaper and Gloss hall, stairs & landing

I have just been quoted £800 to wallpaper my hall, stairs and landing, paint the ceilings and gloss the skirtings and stairs (with spindles), this does not include the wallpaper or paint. I have been told it should take him about a week if its done sooner then he will reduce the price, does this sound a fair price?

If it helps I've just been quoted £900 for painting an open plan kitchen/living room, includes paint and will take 3 days

Depends on the size of the space, but it does sound reasonable to me because it's an awkward job (or would be in my house at any rate). If you feel it's excessive, get several quotes.
I like to get personal recommendations for decorators - do you know anyone who could recommend you a second person to quote?

I have had the same decorator paint and gloss my lounge and paid him £300 not including the paint, he did a good job. Just was a bit of a shock when he said £800, I know they charge more to wallpaper and it is a matching wallpaper so probably not that bad a quote afterall.

To give perspective, last Feb I was quoted ( 3 separate quotes) £4-4.5k to paint new large 5 bed house with open plan living / kitchen inc paint - week to 10 days work

I should have added it was very straight forwards all white emulsion & water based satin woodwork

A week sounds like a long time to do the work, but I guess it depends on the size and what preparation is needed.

He did say it was worse case scenario, the gloss on the stairs will need an undercoat and some preparation, the walls are just painted white at the moment and shouldn't need any prep. It is an average size hall and landing but with high ceilings and he will be working on his own.

I've always gotten a price per day, usually £80-£100. I think this seems a bit much and it taking a week is taking the piss a bit, but I suppose it depends on the size of the space and area you live in.

We were quoted £1100 for this. Waiting on a second quote
