Sloping ceilings in upstairs rooms

I have sloping ceilings in my upstairs rooms, and annoyingly they are sort of rounded off where the ceiling meets the walls, so there is no straight line where you could eg stop painting white on the ceiling and start painting a colour on the walls.

Most of the rooms are manageable but there is one room with a dormer window which just always looks dark. This room needs completely revamped, new furniture and everything, the only that would be staying is the bed, which is a wooden frame. The room is quite a good size, but because of the height of the ceiling and the placement of the door and radiator, the wardrobe has to go on the wall opposite the window, and then the bed is parallel to that.

Does anyone have any great tips for getting more light into the room and making it look cosier? Should I try to brighten it up, or should I go the opposite direction and just make it dark and cocoon like?

Excuse the messy chair but I have the same issue and this is what I did. The room is quite big but I went with light plain colours on the wall, pattern in the floor and we have the wood to break up the ceiling. It runs through the whole upper floor so it doesn't look weird. Didn't even try with curtains, put the interest on the floor instead. Also found that the built in pale wardrobes made the best use of the straight wall we do have.

That is very nice. The room looks fairly bright. I wish we had that style of window in our room, I think that although you lose ceiling height, you gain in light coming in.

I couldn't so painted the whole thing bloody white and made a feature wall out of the wall I could paint separately and did colour pops for bedding and furnishing.

The cupboards in justwants photo are gorgeous! We paint our upstairs rooms pale/off white with oversized wall canvases to add colour.
Alternatively if you want to paint the walls a bold colour would there be a way of adding a picture rail to the room? That way you could paint in colour or wallpaper below the rail and have white above where the wall blends into the ceiling.

This sounds like my bathroom! I embraced my dark side and although the walls are mainly calico there is a lot of dark grey and dark flooring which makes it feel warmer than when it was much whiter/lighter

A bedroom also has this issue but is a much bigger room so we did all calico (or timeless, I forget!) and have colourful or warm bedding depending on the season

Dark neutral blind on main window - velux window blinds are white, no curtains because of the slopes!

My bedroom was like that in my last house. I painted it all white (one of the off whites, maybe timeless) and used my bed linen to add colour.
