What would you put above the bed?

I would like to put something above the bed but I'm not sure what 🤔

I have a feature wall that is a Laura Ashley bird wallpaper, we matched the rest of the walls to the background colour of the paper so its pretty subtle depending on the light.

My gut instinct is that a painting will compete with the pattern of the wallpaper, so I was thinking more like a sunburst mirror or a sculptural piece. It's also slightly complicated by the chimney breast taking the bed off centre. It used to have a fitted wardrobe to the right so we took it down to get the superking in there and there's no option for a headboard as the bed doesn't sit flush against the wall.

I'm enclose a photo.

Is that wall the feature wall, (cream-ish with the shiny pattern) or is there a different wall that is colourful?

Is that mirror propped up against the wall staying there?

Yep that's right. That's the feature wall with the reflective pattern.

Mirror doesn't have to stay there no. It's just propped up.

Could get a headboard and make adjustments to the floor with something behind it so it's even.

We'd always have wooden planks/ blocks behind furniture to prevent them touching walls.. my mother don't know why.

Paint it same colour as wall...

you could put that mirror on the chimney breast and get an identical one for the other side

The bed is a futon and DP loves the cushions behind it. What I could do though is get some crisper cushion covers that help offset the colour of the curtains/lampshade. Had never considered that for some reason.

The cushions are just naturally kind of squidgy 😁

i wouldn't put anything on the wall.

the wallpaper is the feature surely?

I don't think I would put anything ON the wall that is a feature wall.

The point is that you want to see/notice the wall.

I wonder if it's a bit more subtle than you were hoping for.

Big headboard

I wouldn't call it a feature wall as the pattern is so pale you can barely see it. Did you pay someone to put that up? It doesn't appear to match on the join on the right.

Oh sorry its a it that sticks out! Hard to put something there really.

I'd move the bed or build a stud wall so the wall is flat then build some bookcases in the far right and left that recess into the stud wall. Sorry but it looks odd as it is.

I would make a headboard with a complementary fabric- probably plain in a similar colour . I did this a few years ago using videos online. Super easy. Mdf, piece of foam and essentially wrap the fabric over the top using spray glue and staple gun to secure. My diy averse Dh even hung it on the wall without a problem..

Also probably get some nice dress cushions for in front of it. Keep your squishy Ines hidden underneath/ behind if you want that hotel look..

Trills it was designed to be subtle as I don't like those really contrasting feature walls, I think they looked dated. I wanted something reflective that changed depending on the light through the window.

I think this has helped me with a plan so it's been very helpful weirdly b

I do like the wallpaper :)

It's just not what I immediately think of when you say "feature wall".

I know what you are saying 😎

Now I've grabbed two big cushions off the downstairs sofa and put them on the bed to see if I like the idea of more structured cushions in a grey to accent the other accessories in the room.

I think something like it could work, what do you think?
