Quartz kitchen countertops

Hi there,

We are looking at either granite or quartz worktops. Our supplier recommends Cesarstone but internet reviews are not great.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations please?

we've got Silestone - love it - it's been absolutely brilliant - we re sort of careful with it as it's very light colour but we use turmeric daily and lemon etc. We've always used hot plates for pans and oven dishes - you can basically treat it like you would laminate and if you do get a food stain on it you can out a bit of sterilising liquid on it and it comes out quickly (if the stain not left for too long)

I was advised that Quartz doesn't stain as easily as granite because it's man made. Haven't tried it out yet though. I guess it partly depends on what colour you go for though.

We have granite. Wouldn't recommend it. So easy to have water marks

We've got quartz - forget the brandname but iirc it's made by samsung. Its got a mix of colours in it so if you're not an obsessive worktop polisher its much more forgiving than most granites. DH got put off granite after doing a geology course and learning that some of it is significantly radioactive.

I've got Silestone the light beige one, can't remember the name (I should as it's my bloody job, Kali I think) I pulled a bottle of red wine out of the fridge and stuck it on the side. Next morning red ring cos it had been opened. Wiped straight off.

This was used as our counter in the shop for a few years and then when we remodelled it became my kitchen. Not a mark or chip.

We also have silestone and love it. Wanted granite but was advised that as silestone is non-porous it is far easier to maintain.

Only 1 thing has marked my Silestone so far, Sharpie, and with serious scrubbing with Cif, only I can see it now!

Another vote for Silestone. We have a white one with coloured specs. I'm fairly good about making sure all spills are mopped up but dh & dc less so. Normally not a problem and any we have had get removed with a Bar Keepers friend.

Silestone here, that looks like marble. 3 years in it looks like new and I'm a messy cook.
We went to a Stone Mason to choose from big slabs and he told me that most quartz worktops are very similar and they're just brands with Silestone being the best known.

I have Compac in my last kitchen - almost white (very light grey) had it for 2 years, not a mark on it. I have Silestone counter tops in my bathrooms (about 3 months in) and love them, and then I have Lunastone quartz in my kitchen (marble effect). Love the stuff

All I would say is shop around. You will get different prices from different suppliers and if you have a supplier close by, it is worth going to see what off cuts they have. My island counter top in a previous kitchen was just an off cut (even though it was quite big) so I think it was marked down by 30%, and my bathroom counter tops are off cuts sold as pieces - at a fraction of the cost.

We have Ceasarstone Ivory Shimmer (now discontinued colour). It is beautiful, we have spilt curry, red wine, blackcuarrant squash and all that sort of stuff on it and it is fine. It has been in about 15 months now. We make sure we wipe up any spillages asap just in case, clean weekly with sainsburys glass cleaner and if we need a deeper clean use bar keepers friend but this is abrasive somewhat so only if it really needs it. It comes up so shiny and sparkly, really beautiful

When the Quartz was fitted we noticed an imperfection in it and they couldn't replace the slab as they had stopped the colour, we didn't like any other colour they did for our kitchen so they did us a partial refund. The imperfection is in the drainage grooves so you wouldn't notice. So make sure that it is all okay before the suppliers leave as we didn't and they could have made it awkward for us but luckily they didn't.

Oh and yes agree with the shopping around bit, prices vary a lot, we ended up getting the supplier we wanted to use (as kitchen people used them) to price match a cheaper quote. I don't know how anyone can say anything negative about it - out of interest what are your concerns?
