What colour tiles? Kitchen

Help needed! We are having grey painted kitchen units with solid oak work tops. What colour tiles would go with this combination? I was thinking teal or blue metro tiles, or bright yellow but not sure if yellow would go with the wood? Don't really want to go white as I'd like a splash of colour...

I love the idea of mustard yellow.
How about a muted sage green? That may work better with the oak work tops.

Can you not accessorise with colour then you can do up kitchen every year or so.

Those yellow tiles will look really dated in a couple of year.

Maybe I'm biased as I've just put white brick tiles in my kitchen and gone for a sage and white scheme and it's very fresh. Copper accessories look lovely on it

Thanks Elly, hadn't thought of sage.

This is the kitchen

Nina that's what I'm concerned about. I love the bright yellow but not sure it will be right.
May need to go more neutral.
Also need to think about floor tiles...

Black and white floor = every speck of dust and dirt will show. Worst combination ime. I lived in a house with a checkerboard kitchen floor and after getting it back to black and white from grubby grey realised it was a pain to keep clean.

The tiles are timeless so I'd go with those.

If you went with white tiles you could get mustard accessories and textiles. I bet there are some lovely pieces.

Are you having blinds up at Windows? What are your light fittings like?

Blinds i haven't thought about. We wanted those hanging down type of lights over the peninsula bit, not sure if the name of them, bistro lights? Haven't thought of the colour, maybe copper?

Oh, those yellow tiles are gorgeous, but, agree that you might tire of them in a few years. Love black and white floors though.

Maybe get yellow in a different way like this?

On one of those 'Do your house for thrippence ha'penny' programmes, Piers used one of these and sprayed the inside yellow. It looked great.

You could choose Roman blind or roller blinds and have them mustard and the hang down lights mustard. You could pull the colour all over the room rather than just stuck in one place.

Your grey units would look lovely with flashes of this colour

That grey light on the 2nd light pic looks like a cheap bin bag Grin

Oooh lovely ideas, thanks guys!
Think you're right about blinds and lights being colourful and tiles neutral.

We have white metro tiles in the bathroom so I wanted to have something different in the kitchen so still not sure what to do with wall tiles, maybe white but another shape.

Arrgh, just went to finalise kitchen and we realised the colour wasn't what we thought, if we wanted the dark grey doors it was going to be an extra £1000... Now I'm worried that the colour looks like an off white rather than grey...

I had such an awful day yesterday (got locked in a car park and was late picking up DS) and in the store felt pressurised to go ahead, because DP said we can't afford the more expensive one (which is true).

but I have based the whole thing around it being grey and now I'm not sure if it's going to look ok. Confused

I don't think it will look weird against the white. Everything goes with white, and lots of people have cream kitchens with white sink or fridge. When you have a whole kitchen you will see the grey fine.

I like the turquoise tiles in your link, or maybe the blue comes back into play now that you're going lighter. They're all gorgeous.

Thanks, that's reassuring. Yes, I'm thinking turquoise and blue.
I like these lights from john Lewis
