Parisian flea market style paint

Want to paint a small wooden garden bench a faded blue or sage colour & give it that Parisian flea market vibe... Is this a major DIY project? Or if i slap on a layer of appropriate paint & leave it outside for a season, will this be achieved by mother nature?
