What colour is your hall, stairs and landing carpet?

Currently got a kind of sage green carpet down chosen by previous owners, needs replacing as threadbare. I want to put in something neutral (stone/beige type of thing etc) but DH is saying we need something darker as it'll just show up the dirt.

He's right. Ours is blue with a small pattern on it. It was here when we bought the house and is still in good nick.

It's beige with a darker fleck in it. The fleck helps to hide mucky bits, but it's light enough to brighten up the dark landing. We didn't choose it, but it was a good choice Smile

Light grey, I have a no shoes in the house rule so not too fussed about it not showing dirt
(I know that I'm not allowed to admit that on mumsnet though because everyone starts losing it ConfusedWink)

Beige but with a texture in it so it doesn't show any bits up.

Hall is oak flooring, stairs and landing are beige. Worn and awful, getting replaced later this year.

We have blue stripes (different shades of blue with the odd beige stripe). I love it.

The landing is beige/ sandy coloured, but with a lot of flecks in it to hide dirt.

^ sorry, just to clarify, the stairs are stripey.

Mid tones are best for avoiding visible dirt. Dark flooring shows up all the light-coloured specks, which are just as annoying as the dark ones.

Beige and it's fine. I wouldn't go for a very pale one. The ones with dark flecks are perfect.

Stairs & landing - beige with a fleck. Been down around 5 years, barely any marks and those are disguised by the flecks.
Hall - kardean type wood effect, with a large inset doormat across the width and about 1m into the hall.

My sister went for a darker colour thinking the same as your DH. It shows up every pale bit of lint and dust and dog hair - far worse than a neutral beige one would.

Navy blue, don't do it - it needs vacuuming CONSTANTLY.

Thanks, all. Is a Berber better than the other type? Twist or whatever they're called?

Berber great unless you have cats.

I don't get the beige obsession. Then again I think grey paint looks like undercoat or concrete, so what do I know Grin

I too want stripes.

Karndean on the hall floor
Pastel cream, pink and lilac stripes on the stairs and landing
Love it

Stripe carpet which is red, mulberry and charcoal. Took an age to find but worth the wait!

Love your stripes Autumnchill, are the stripes just on the stairs and not the landing at the top? We've just been measured up for carpets today and contemplating stripes but not sure how they work at the top, do you then have plain carpet or a striped landing?

I am about to do mine and have an overwhelming urge to have bright orange, green or pink! Or dark grey velvet look, wildly impractical with sporty DSs though"
Have Charleston Grey walls and am bored with beige stair carpets, had them in my last houses....

Grey carpet with tiny flecks going through the hall was meant to be mauve but decorator said it soaked into the wallpaper so its lavender was raging at the time used to it now

autumn I love that carpet. Am just trying to work out how to sort a square shaped landing with stripey stairs.

Plus are the painted edges dust traps?

It's difficult to get the stripe right on the return and only looks good from one the top down so we went with their recommendation of having the charcoal from the top step, on the return and then the landing. Also avoid wool as the stripe moves, get a twist.

This carpet is in John Lewis but we got a local company to price match, it's in a range named after London Train Stations, Baker Street I think?

We've got 4 cats and get fur on the painted bit but got a Dyson handheld so if it gets too bad, just give it a blast with that.

View from the top if that helps on how to sort out the return.

Beige with a darker fleck. I wasn't sure but it's fab looks better layed than on the sample . It also doesn't show the bits of the socks!
