My 8 year old daughter has a lovely but very small bedroom and she really could do with more space.

We have a spare room which is a similar size and it just seems to become a bit of dumping ground for washing and my husbands huge collection of books.

I've been thinking that I could rearrange the rooms so that my daughter can use both. I'm thinking that she can have one room for sleeping/dressing in and a room for her toys and books/desk/sofa etc. The idea would be that if she has friends over they would hang out in the room with the toys in.

I'm just not sure which room should be for what or how best to set the rooms up. I'd love some ideas for what sort of things to put in each room.

One is a lovely sunny room with floor to ceiling French doors opening out on to a small balcony. Unfortunately it's roasting in the summer and only a nice place to be if we have the French doors wide open.

The other room is rather dark and uninspiring ( the window is at the side of the house so any sunlight is blocked by the neighbouring house)

Both rooms are quite small with only enough room for a single bed , a small ikea triple wardrobe and a desk/dressing table. Both have one fairly unusable wall because of the design of the windows.

Any ideas?

Sounds great. Definitely the French doors room as the playroom. A space for sleeping does not have to be bright and exciting and you don't want it to be too hot. It would be much nicer to have the playroom in a nice bright space.

Thanks - I suppose having all of her clothes in with her bed and everything else in the other room will work best. Going to have to try and do it without spending too much so will have to have a think about doing it without buying all new furniture!
