Spray painting an electric kettle?

I want to change the decor of my kitchen from pastel blue to copper but I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment. I'm thinking of spray painting my electric kettle and my bin because they're the only things on show really apart from tea, coffee, sugar canisters but I can afford the buy new ones of them.

I might do a tester on my bin at the back so I can hide it but what about the kettle? Would it be wise to spray something that heats up?

I spray painted my blue kettle Matt black ... it worked ok but I did use hear safe spray ( for spraying fires and grates etc ) it did OK for a while - about 6 months - then I got the posh new one I really wanted !
