Hi there,

My little sister has an upcoming birthday - and would like a lamp like the below which is £300 from John Lewis - I'd rather spend closer to £50-£100 - have you seen any similar lamps on your travels?

Her requirements are:

She likes the retro/deco shape of the John Lewis one
She would ideally like it to be touch activated/have dimmer switch
She wants the base to be metal

Any help would be hugely appreciated!!

Maybe report this and ask it to be moved to Chat? Or Property? Or something else anyway!!

Sorry for the delay here. We're moving this over to our Home Decoration topic now. We think the OP will have more chance finding that lamp over there. Grin

So John Lewis sell theirs for £300 and Dumelm for around £15?!!!

Rupster I agree you're not paying for the raw materials when you buy things like that though.

It's like most watches are pretty much identical - maybe some have slightly better quality leather for the strap, and some have a slightly better mechanic, but unless you're buying top of the range a Casio is pretty much identical to a Gucci watch in terms of materials used.

I'm not super-keen on the Dunelm one (thank you though BikeRunSki) as it is a little bit small - and the yellow too custardy (whereas the John Lewis one was more mustardy) - one of the things I really like about the JL one is the way the wire weaves through the arm of the lamp - I think that kind of detailing is what makes it appear classy.

I guess the lamp doesn't have to even look like the JL one - just be of a similar, vintage-y, retro style. xx

I totally agree that the John Lewis one is much nicer, better designed and just more refined Think. You are obviously paying for quality design with that lamp.
