My stair spindles look like this:

EXCEPT they're painted white and are almost certainly pine, not oak!

|We're talking suburban semi, here! (actually a 4br house, but 20 years old and 'of the style').

I am going to repaint them, a soft white, but I am thinking I might paint the grooves in pale grey.

My plan is to sand and paint them soft white, let it dry, 'paint' or draw the pale grey into the grooves, then, if necessary, once dry, deal with any bleed via padding another coat of soft white over the flat bit so the white paint doesn't penetrate into the grooves.

It'd be much easier if I could find a paint pen, rather than having to do the whole shebang by hand!

Any ideas?

I'm putting this in Chat as well.

TIA.

What about a artist's paint brush instead? Just do all your coats of primer and white paint them add the detail. If you do get any smudges outside the grooves, you can wipe them off.
