Bedrooms: why in all 'inspiration' photos- is the bed lagged with pillows?

I mean, really, how many pillows do you have on your bed? We have 2. One each.

Houzz is a mass of similar.

MrsSpecter Thu 02-Jun-16 18:52:30

Because it looks luxurious and aspirational.

iklboo Thu 02-Jun-16 18:54:19

Aspirational to have loads of pillows in your bed? Looks like a pain in the arse faff to me. MIL is one for that - takes you about 10 minutes taking off cushions, teddies, plush hearts and stuff before you can get in.

Mood proper goes off you after that grin

MrsSpecter Thu 02-Jun-16 18:55:36

Yep. To look like youve 'loadsa dosh' to fritter away on cushions that serve no purpose.

Draylon Thu 02-Jun-16 18:57:10

another one!

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 18:58:53

Because it's a matter of personal taste? DH and I have 10 pillows on our bed - only 4 of which are used for sleeping.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 18:59:49

This is our bed.

Draylon Thu 02-Jun-16 19:01:56

Ten pillows? My DH would divorce me! But yes, horses for courses- my point is why it's not seen as a 'personal taste' thing but an inspirational photo of a bedroom necessity! Every. Single. One.

I think it's to give the idea of casual frivolity, rolling around in the hay bed, pillows scattered everywhere amidst all the passion.
DH loves this, after much nagging he bought 5 extra pillows hmm in addition to two we already have, for our bed. All get thrown with one hand swoop on the floor every night. We grab a pillow each. Bliss.

Draylon Thu 02-Jun-16 19:06:03

Mine's more... grin

MrsSpecter Thu 02-Jun-16 19:08:28

grin draylon

annie yours is lovely.

What do you do with the pillows when the bed is in use - just fling them on the floor, and then pick them up in the morning?

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 19:17:16

Mine's not aspirational at all. I just like the way it looks. And yes, the six decorative ones get pushed to the floor at bedtime and then put back on the bed in the morning.

Draylon Thu 02-Jun-16 19:19:10

Do you do your bed up like that every morning?

fluffikins Thu 02-Jun-16 19:27:43

It's healthier not to make your bed as you need to let air and sunlight which helps kill off dust mites

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 19:32:09

Yes, I make my bed every morning. I could never leave the house with an unmade bed.

anyoldname76 Thu 02-Jun-16 19:32:43

we have 3 pillows on our bed, one each and a little heart pillow my dd made. it always makes me wonder where people put the masses of pillows, it would drive me mad to arrange loads of pillows everyday or if they were left on the floor

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 19:32:52

Shit, I didn't mean that to sound as judgmental as it does. Sorry.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Thu 02-Jun-16 19:56:42

the six decorative ones get pushed to the floor at bedtime

That would make me twitch. The bedroom is the one tidy minimalist part of the house, cushions all over the floor would be so messy...

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 20:01:36

cushions all over the floor would be so messy...

But your eyes are closed and you're sound asleep?

Draylon Thu 02-Jun-16 20:22:13

But what if you need the loo? Have you risk assessed all those strewn pillows?

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf Thu 02-Jun-16 20:48:39

Thank you for your concern, Draylon, but I can assure you that all necessary risk assessments have been completed. According to the 227 page "Pillow Management Manual" dossier, all pillows and cushions are to be placed on the floor leaning against the wall and are to be precisely 92cm from the end of the bed. This allows ample space for safe midnight wanderings.

NotAMamaYet Thu 02-Jun-16 20:57:54

Loads of pillows looks tacky and dated IMO

AnchorDownDeepBreath Thu 02-Jun-16 20:59:46

I can't sleep without loads of pillows. They aren't fancy ones but I guess they could be.

I like to sleep in a pillow fort.

Draylon Fri 03-Jun-16 14:26:06

You need motion sensitive lighting, Annie - just to be on the safe side!

Are you sure your Pillow Management Manual is up to date with the latest evidence based practices? Hmm?
